When Vipul Patel, quit his Chemical Engineering diploma in Bharuch, he knew that he wanted to be more than just a senior chemist. After spending 5 years climbing the corporate ladder, from being a direct sales executive to a mark

eting guru, Vipul knew, there is nothing he cannot sell. Yet, he was losing sleep over the lack of ethics in the market. He wanted to sell something that brought him prayers and a good night’s sleep. In 1998, the Patel family was facing a down swing financially. The determined Vipul was adamant about making a mark in the food industry. That’s when this ex- white collared professional, took to running a Wada Pav laari. After six months of seeing less-then-desired-sales, Vipul started “Karnavati Dabeli” outside his maternal uncle’s shop. Because he was always fond of it and wanted to do something that made people happy. Vipul decided to do put his marketing and corporate mind to good use and started a trading business where in, he bought from a supplier and sold to a retailer. But that didn’t quite work for him. So, over 3-4 years he decided to learn the art hands on, and get down to the shop floor. His first shop was called Karnavati Dabeli at Gurukul road. Not having a very supportive family, Vipul who believed that nothing was impossible for him was strongly supported by his wife Sonal Patel. Sonal was the train to Vipul’s engine and quickly made sure that all his innovations and plans were executed, the way they are supposed to. Karnavati Dabeli saw immense success. Vipul Patel promptly took up helping others start the business by training them. By 2004, Vipul and Sonal Patel had trained around 100 small entrepreneurs in the business. Just like the wheel of fortune, Vipul’s life circle saw another down swing. In 2005 Vipul left the Karnavati Dabeli Family and started with a stall outside IIM. It quickly gained popularity and was even appreciated by local FM channels! However, when the municipal rules changed 6 months later, Vipul and Sonal Patel were left with no other option but to shift to Palanpur, a small town outside Ahmedabad. They had a dabeli store there by the name of Karnavati Dabeli. It took the enterprising couple 5 years to gain footing once again. That is when they decided to start their climb on the graph of expansion. They sold their first franchisee in Radhanpur on 19th January 2012. However, seeing that Karnavati Dabeli was already a popular franchise, Vipul started Kutchi King and trade marked the name. Promptly, a month later, the second Kutchi King franchisee was sold in Tharad on 23rd of February, 2012. It was three months later that the king and queen of Dabelis came back to Ahmedabad and started the first official company outlet of Kutchi King in Parasnagar area. By the end of 2012, the world did not end, but Kutchi King sure started its journey to take over the world with its 16 franchisees. The number has only risen with each year. Today Kutchi King has over 160 centres, and has provided generous livelihood to over 1000 individuals. Today Kutchi King owns a training centre for all franchisee owners and workers, introducing 100 more and innovative products in their menu, starting its own bakery in joint venture to standardize bakery product quality
