Listen, life be LIFE’ING. 😂 You can have the whole daggone day planned out and life will come through like, “Yeahhhh… we ain’t doing none of that today.” 🤣

But one rough day, one setback, or one plan that went completely left doesn’t cancel the opportunities still sitting in front of you.

Wake up. Thank Yah. Dust yourself off and try that thing again—or try it a different way.

Because you don’t need all 365 days to go right.

Sweet love darling… sometimes ONE good opportunity can change the whole daggone game. 👀

This right here is something I had to learn for myself: I don’t have to become somebody else to become better.

This world will have you thinking you gotta look like them, move like them, talk like them, build like them, and do what THEY did in order for what you’re doing to mean something.

But what’s wrong with doing it YOUR way?!

I learned this lesson the hard way a few years ago when we entered into a partnership and moved Vegan Xpress out of our home and into an actual restaurant.

One of the FIRST things to go was our name. Vegan Xpress wasn’t “good enough,” so it became Soul Vegan and Vibes.

Then my food was “too American.” It needed to be more Mediterranean. My husband shouldn’t be out talking, laughing, serving and connecting with our customers because he was supposed to “manage.”

Little by little, we started changing everything that made us US.

And you know what happened?

Vegan Xpress left the building.

The food felt different. The service felt different. The spirit felt different. And the customers who had been rocking with us for YEARS knew it too.

Eventually we walked away from the partnership, walked away from the restaurant building and brought Vegan Xpress right back HOME.

And guess what?

Our people came back too.

That experience taught me something I will NEVER forget:

You can learn from people. Take the wisdom. Study the game. Improve where you need improving.

But don’t study somebody else so hard that you forget your own recipe.

I’m blessed and grateful we learned that lesson THEN and not now, because today I know exactly who I am, what Vegan Xpress is, and what we bring to the table.

I’m not trying to become the next anybody.

I’m trying to become the BEST version of the woman Yah created ME to be.

So be yourself. Stand in it. Build from it. And don’t let anybody convince you that what makes you different is the very thing you need to change.

Sometimes what they’re trying to change about you is EXACTLY what people fell in love with in the first place.

The original will ALWAYS be worth more than the copy.

This one right here speaks to me because everything I am today came through something I once struggled to be.

I can say I’m strong now because Sweet Love Darlings, I KNOW what weak feels like. I know what it feels like to question yourself, get tired, get discouraged, and wonder if you really got what it takes to keep pushing this thing through.

I can say I’m fearless, not because I don’t get scared….it’s because I’ve learned that fear can ride in the car, but it CAN’T DRIVE. I done made too many moves with shaky hands and a nervous stomach to let fear convince me I can’t do something.

And wisdom? Whew chile… 😂 some of these lessons I paid FULL PRICE for and still paying for 👀! I done made some decisions that had me looking back like, Britney… now what in the world was you thinking?! 😂 But I learned and still learning…….And THAT’S what matters!

See, we spend too much time being ashamed of the versions of ourselves that didn’t know better.

But I needed her.

The weak me taught me strength.
The scared me taught me courage.
The foolish me taught me wisdom.

So I’m not ashamed of where I’ve been. I’m grateful I didn’t stay there.

Every lesson, every wrong turn, every “I ain’t doing THAT mess again,” 😂 helped build the woman standing here today.

Don’t hate on your past self. Thank her for surviving long enough to introduce you to who you were becoming.

Listen… before you ever open your mouth, SOMETHING about you has already walked in the room.

Your attitude. Your spirit. Your confidence. Your intentions. The way you carry yourself. The way you treat people. That energy done already introduced you before you got a chance to say, “Hey, how you doing?” 😂

And Sweet Love Darlings, THAT is why I’m learning to be real careful about what I carry with me.

I don’t want to walk into a room carrying bitterness from yesterday. I don’t want frustration, anger, disappointment, or somebody else’s foolishness speaking on my behalf. You done messed up MY day, and now I’m taking that mess somewhere it ain’t got no business being?! NOPE. 😂

Because whether we realize it or not, we leave a little bit of our energy everywhere we go.

So I want mine to say something GOOD.

I want my energy to say: She came with peace. She came with purpose. She came with love. She knows who she is, and she ain’t gotta tear nobody else down to prove it.

And understand something—good energy doesn’t mean life is always good. It means I refuse to let everything that happens TO me determine what comes OUT of me.

WHEW! And sometimes that right there takes some WORK. 😂

Protect your energy. Check it when it needs checking. And be mindful of what you’re bringing into spaces, because sometimes people will feel who you are long before they hear a single word you say.

Make sure your energy gives the introduction you want your mouth to follow.

This one right here? Yeah… I’m talking to MYSELF too.
😂🤷🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️

I have spent so much of my life believing that being productive meant doing MORE. More work. More responsibilities. More things checked off the list. If I had a little time left in the day, I could find SOMETHING else that needed to be done.

And Sweet Love Darlings… that mess will wear you OUT!!!!

Because at some point you gotta ask yourself: Am I really being productive… or have I just gotten good at being busy? 👀

That’s the part I’m working on.

I’m learning that I don’t have to carry everything just because I’m capable of carrying it. Being able to do it doesn’t mean I need to be the one doing it. And everything on my list ain’t an emergency just because I wrote it down.

THAT is where “work smarter, not harder” is starting to hit different for me.

I haven’t mastered this yet. Not even close. 😂 I’m still learning how to take something OFF my plate without turning around and putting three more things back on it.

But maybe somebody else needs this reminder while I’m reminding myself:

The goal ain’t always to figure out how to do more. Sometimes the blessing is figuring out what you can stop doing altogether.

Less unnecessary pressure.
Less running yourself ragged.
Less feeling guilty because you sat your behind DOWN for a minute. 😂

Strive not to get more done, but to have LESS to do.

Now THAT’S the level of productivity I’m trying to get to. 🎤(mic drop)
