After a little break for a holiday, it’s time to get back to our list of frequently asked questions. So, let’s start the week off with this one:

FAQ # 5 - What do you drink at home?

Batch coffee is my top tip for coffee at home. I always get asked this so here you go.

Bonus tip…if I have more time I’ll do a Pour Over but it’ll always be filter brew and never espresso.

—————-

We’re really enjoying putting these together, so if you’ve got anything you’d like answered, let us know in the comments. Whether it’s about something technical or personal tastes, fire away.

Cheers!

Once again, happy Friday!

For our fourth FAQ, Ferg answers another question that pops up almost daily.

Whether it’s for a gift or personal use, we’ve found a lot of people aren’t 100% sure what’s the right type of coffee to pick up. We’ll always help you to try and pin down what you like in a coffee before recommending anything, but just as importantly, we’ll get an insight into what you’re using to make it. This discussion usually leads to:

FAQ # 4 - What’s the difference between filter and espresso coffee?

In FAQ # 1 we covered how to find out what’s in the bag by going through the label layout. This week, we’ll show you what the initial difference is between filter and espresso coffees. It may seem like a fairly simple one to some, but if you’ve been unsure, it can make a huge difference to your cup of coffee at home.

Along with some other questions, in the next few weeks we’re going to get stuck into both the roasting and brewing side of this one. Whether it’s coffee bean selection, the difference between roasts or brewing techniques, there’s a lot unpack and it’ll hopefully answer a lot more questions for you.

Cheers!

(As always, fire away with any other FAQs)

Happy (bank holiday) Friday!

With another week nearly over, it’s time for another FAQ.

This week we’re covering something we get asked a lot about our coffee.

“What blend is this?” Or “What blends do you have?”.

In this week’s video, we’ll lay out why we don’t blend coffees, but focus on being a single origin coffee roaster, instead.

And before you ask:

“What’s a single origin coffee roaster?”

That’s covered, too.

So, let’s get into why we do what we do and how it allows us to make coffee of high quality, consistency, taste and traceability.

Cheers!

(As always, if you have any questions you’d like an answer to, pop it in the comments!)

Hello again!

So, following on from last week, we’ll tackle another FAQ. What’s on the block this Friday?

FAQ # 2 : Why don’t you like pre-grinding coffee?

This week we’ll explain why we’re not exactly mad about something we get asked for a lot.

While getting a bag pre-ground might seem convenient, it can massively affect how you enjoy your coffee… and not in a good way.

Whether it’s roasting or brewing, we love what we do and want you to experience that, too. From selecting coffees at origin, getting them here, roasting them and brewing them for you, a lot of care and attention goes into every step of the journey.

In this week’s video, you’ll learn a bit about our stance on pre-grinding coffee and why we always recommend picking up a grinder for home use.

So, watch along and see why freshly ground coffee tastes better for a couple of reasons.

Trust us, you’ll never look back.

Cheers!

(Don’t forget to ask any other questions you might have in the comments, we’re going to be ticking more off as the weeks go by.)

Happy Friday!

Welcome to the first in a series of short videos we’ve wanted to do for a good while now.

In our DMs, emails and chats in the coffee shop, we get asked a lot of questions. Some, pretty frequently.

So, we thought it might be a good idea to tackle them here so that more people can see the answers.

It was hard to pick a place to start as there are tonnes, but you have to start somewhere…

FAQ #1 : How do I know what’s in the bag? What’s on the label?

When you pick up a bag of our coffee, you’re going to see a label that’s considered and minimal, but it still has everything you need to know.

Here we’ll walk you through how we’ve laid out our labels, covering the who, what, where and when behind each coffee. This way, you can pick what’s right for you.

As we said, we’re going to post these as regularly as we can, so hopefully they’ll shed some light on things you’ve wondered about.
If you have more questions you’d like us to answer, pop it in the comments and we’ll get on to it in the coming weeks.

Cheers!

This door is open 2 years on Wednesday 1st…and today somebody sent me this photo, would you spare me a minute to read what this photo means, there’s a reward at the end!
At first I don’t like this photo, not because it’s not a great photo but because at first glance I see the imperfections…the age…the unfinished things that I lost energy to finish (for now)…the damage of 2 years traffic and weather…the ugly alarm box on the wall…the un-hoovered rug…the carelessly placed stool and side table…and so on!
But then I keep staring at it and start seeing other things, things that shift the feelings of those other things…the door is open, it represents our brand and our heart, the door is worn, it’s used, used and used. I’m grateful for this.
I see the material and the joinery and the exquisite craftsmanship.
I see 2 years of layers on that beauty, the warmth and the wear.
I see the blurred out car through the window. I know the owners of that car, they come here often and not without joy and ideas and friendship and magic, life would be less without them.
I see things on tables and legs crossed at them, I can feel the vibe of that coffee shop chit chat, I love it.
I see that beautiful piece of art on the wall painted by someone who listened to our story and painted a piece, she called it “Between earth and Sky”.
And what I can’t see in this photo I can see in my soul…the community, the friendships formed, the creativity, the hard work, the incredible team, the combined effort of doing a thing and doing it to the best of our ability when bandwidth allows and when it doesn’t, knowing that the intention is there…

What this photo stirs up when I look long enough is enough to take stock and be thankful.
It quietens the voices of “the heater is broken”, “I prefer the old place”, “we didn’t need another trendy coffee shop” “you shouldn’t do Instagram posts in the first person”…It makes me give my inner perfectionist a slap in the mouth.
It helps me give myself a break when I can’t keep up and it makes me so happy we did this thing and get to wallow in the life that bustles through this door.

The reward…
2 years on July 1st = €2 coffee all day 🙌🏻

Fresh Filter - Gathaithi AA - Kenya

A returning favourite has hit the shelves and our online store.

Our Gathaithi AA is a small batch roast with specifically chosen varieties from the Nyeri region in Kenya.

We’ve been bringing this coffee in from the Gathaithi Farmer’s Coop in Nyeri for 10 years now and it never fails to blow us away.

This is a washed coffee, roasted specifically for filter to accentuate it’s fruit forward character. This batch has a gorgeous, rich caramel backbone which allows the bright fresh melon and floral notes to shine.

Online and on the shelf now, available on the bar from this weekend.

Enjoy.
