It's hard to tell if KRC Road Maintenance saw my last post or not. If they did, then they decided to leave a little art design on the side door of the pub. If they didn't, which is more likely, then they are just demonstrating that they really don't care about any of the businesses in town.
During the height of COVID, when there was a 5k travel restriction in place, we had a problem with leaks from the chimney stacks on the side of the building. We needed to put up a scaffold in the laneway to put a cover on the chimney stacks. When I contacted the council I was strongly encouraged to put the scaffolding on the main street and try to access the chimney stacks from there. This was neither practical or workable.
There are removable bollards on Courthouse lane delineating the footpath. I suggested that they could be removed temporarily to allow traffic to pass. Initially I was told that I would need a traffic management plan, which would likely cost in the region of €1,000, if I wanted to put scaffolding at the side. In the end the council was satisfied with an undertaking that we would have someone there to focus on keeping any traffic moving and make sure pedestrians were safe. (This was middle of Covid, there was NO traffic and NO pedestrians anyway)
The Saturday night before last would traditionally have been one of the busiest nights/weekends of the year with Kerry playing Dublin in Austin Stacks. On Friday evening, when finishing up for the weekend, KRC Rod Maintenance decided to store their barriers and completely block the pedestrian footpath on Courthouse Lane. On one of the busiest weekends of the year, the footpath was completely blocked. They did the exact same this weekend. They also block the footpath with their truck when doing works during the week.
There are bins from a business on the opposite side of Castle Street who store their bins on the footpath in Courthouse lane, 24*7, 365 days. Apparently it wouldn't suit the business to store them on their own property.
So, my questions to KCC. (Kerry County Council)
Is the footpath in Courthouse lane, actually a footpath?
If I am doing works on the pub in the future can I disregard the footpath?
I have 4 bins in the storeroom of the pub. Can I store them on the footpath to free up a bit of room in the storeroom?
