There’s something really special about feeling at home in a place that wasn’t your home to begin with.
Almost 12 years ago, we arrived in Ireland as an Italian family, not knowing exactly what our future would look like. What we found here — in Portmarnock — was warmth, kindness, and a community that welcomed us with open arms. Somewhere along the way, Ireland stopped feeling like “abroad”… and started feeling like home.
One of the things that makes this community so special is the GAA. Gaelic football isn’t just sport — it’s people, it’s families, it’s kids growing up together, it’s neighbours standing on the sideline on cold days, it’s belonging 🖤💛
That’s why this means so much to us.
Our team will soon be wearing polos inspired by the local Naomh Mearnóg kit, with both their logo and ours. Not just as a uniform — but as a symbol 🖤💛 A small way to show that we believe in community first, and that we want to be a bridge between the families who have always been here and the new families who are just starting their story in Portmarnock.
We will also have information available at Contrabando Café about the GAA club, to help new families and children who would like to join, get involved, and feel part of the community.
After talking with Orlaight and Damien, the Chairman, and seeing how thrilled they were about this idea, it made us even more proud to be part of this beautiful community.
Because community isn’t about where you’re from.
It’s about where you feel you belong.
Proud to be part of it 🖤💛☕🇮🇪🇮🇹
