This is very much out of character for both of us both we feel its important to let the truth be known. We've listened to what has been said about situation between the owers of Il Ponte Nuovo and An Chistin as being resolved. This is not the case.

In our view the onwers business conduct has been both unethical and utterly destructive to how we anticipated our retirement to pan out. The results of which has forced us to take this to court and let it be decided by law.

After a successful 3 years in partnership both parties now only speak through their solicitors.

To reiterate we are not posting this message for sympathy or reaction. We simply want to get the truth out and for people to have all sides of the sitution.

Tomorrow is a landmark moment for our family. For the final time my mam & dad will damn their aprons in what has been a truly spectacular career and life’s journey together. After over 25 years they will hand over the keys to An-Chistin (Or as we like to call it...the 5th child!) and set off into the retirement sunset together. An Chistin was the bedrock of my youth. It became a 2nd home. It fed me. It was my pit stop to everything. It employed me. It thought me about what hard work looked like. It even bought a few friends along the way l

An Chistin has been our Rovers Return. It's our Queen Vic. It's where people gather for the local gossip. The town scandal. To rehash what we've all read in today’s paper. To hear dad eulogize about another Munster masterclass. It's a home.

It's a place where people don't need a menu. Don't need to ask. The food always appears. The refill already poured. It's a home.

It's a place that's catered for more characters than a Mills and Boon novel over the years, with a Wall of Fame in pre-production. Where punters write sonnets to seduce the patron. Where families come for fodder at the request of their kids, knowing mam is there to greet them with open arms (and often lollies!).

Today I still walk through those doors and feel the atmosphere of the community. The warmth emitted is palpable. Some come for food. Some arrive for shelter. And others just for the craic! Whatever the reason they have touched the heart of the Newbridge community in ways they only know how. I will miss it.

Mark Twain famously said never to let your schooling interfere with your education. Watching my parents show the perseverance, grit, compassion, integrity, and kindness they have done to achieve such heights, it's evident our schooling was well and truly carved out of the 5th child.

I'm extremely grateful St. Patrick got rid of the snakes from Ireland. I'm even more grateful to have had a life enriched with such fond memories and inspiring role models. To find mine I always went to An Chistin. The biggest wish anyone can wish for is the legacy they leave behind. Without doubt your legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you will continue for a long time to come.

To the 5th child....you'll be missed

And if you've gotten this far....Come on Ireland!!

25 years on and the time has come for Siobhan & Donie to hang up the apron strings in An Chistin and move onto the next chapter …..RETIREMENT!!……
The Hurley family wish to express our sincerest & heart felt thanks & appreciation to all of our extremely loyal customers ( some of whom have become like extended family) , suppliers , staff & George’s Street neighbours who have continued to support us over the last 25 years, from humble small beginning’s in the Coffee Cabin in 1993 to the last 20 + years as An Chistin. This fantastic journey wouldn’t have been possible without you. So between now & March 17th We would love to see as many familiar faces walk thru the door so we can share one last coffee/ chat/ joke with you.
We would like to also take this opportunity wish Moe and the Ilpone Nuovo crew every success as they will pick up the reigns from here & continue with business as usual in both daytime and night time service. Its been an absolute pleasure working along side you for the past 3 or so years and we have every confidence we have left the 5th child in the right hands.

Thank you once again for allowing us to follow our dream for 25 years and creating life long memories along the way !
