Lughnasadh is one of Ireland’s four ancient Celtic festivals, celebrated around 1st August to mark the beginning of the harvest season. 🌾

Named after the god Lugh, it was traditionally a time to give thanks for the first fruits of the harvest, gather with family and community, and celebrate with feasting, music, games and storytelling.

To embody patience too- “the apples are on the trees but they are not ripe for picking”
Where can we connect with nature in this way in our own lives ?
Where can we practice trust in the nature of our own beings ?

For generations, this festival marked an important turning point in the year, honouring the abundance of the land and the hard work that made the harvest possible.

As one of Ireland’s most significant ancient ceremonial landscapes, the Hill of Tara invites us to reflect on our ancestors’ connection to the land, the seasons, and the traditions that continue to inspire us today.

Summer Solstice is upon us people have gathered at the ancient Hill of Tara to connect with nature, honour the changing seasons, and experience the magic of sunrise over one of Ireland’s most sacred landscapes.

Similar to Nature , renowned psychotherapist Carl Jung believed that true self-awareness and psychological growth come from integrating our own light and shadow, our conscious and subconscious and our inner masculine and feminine.

By Welcoming all parts of ourselves we move towards a deeper sense of inner peace and are no longer at war with ourselves, people and world around us.

Did you know… the famous Fairy Trees on the Hill of Tara are ancient hawthorn trees believed in Irish folklore to be gateways to the world of the Aos Sí or The Fairy Folk🧚🌳

For centuries , pilgrims and visitors to Tara have left biodegradable offerings to the Trees and Fairies such as Daisy Chains , Dandelions , fruits and more. In Irish folklore, disturbing these fairy trees was said to bring bad luck!

These trees are typically solitary hawthorns, which have a natural lifespan of up to 400 years, meaning these particular specimens are still in their youth.

The Hill of Tara itself has been a sacred and ceremonial site for over 5,000 years and is traditionally known as the seat of Ireland’s High Kings, making the fairy trees an especially powerful symbol of Ireland’s connection to myth, history and spirituality.

Today, the trees remain a place where people leave wishes and reflect on ancient traditions, keeping a piece of Irish folklore alive in the heart of County Meath. 🍀✨

Did you know we have our very own sheela-na-gig up at the hill of Tara ? ☘️
The Tara Sheela-na-Gig is a 12th–16th century carved stone figure located in the churchyard of St. Patrick’s Church on the Hill , It is found on the eastern side of the taller of two standing stones known as Blocc and Bluigne. These figures represent naked women, often with stylized genitalia, likely used as protective, pagan fertility symbols or moral warnings against lust.
While Sheela-na-gigs are typically associated with medieval churches, the location on the Hill connects it with one of Ireland’s most significant ancient, pre-Christian, and royal sites.

As next Tuesday we celebrate st. Patrick’s day… let’s look back on how he impacted the hill of Tara , our home 💚

In 432 AD a Roman saint named St. Patrick visited the Hill of Tara to confront the Pagan King Laoghaire. According to legend, Patrick plucked a shamrock of the grassy hillside of Tara, and used the shamrock’s three leaves to explain the Church’s paradox of the Holy Trinity: the union of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in one. Convinced by the stranger, King Laoghaire agreed to let St. Patrick continue his missionary work and spread Christianity throughout Ireland. Patrick did far more than convert pagan Ireland to Christianity; he popularized the faith, carefully integrating it with what he knew of Celtic mythology and Irish lore so that it was more easily assimilated.

Now the shamrock is one of irelands most known symbols including our national airline having their logo as the three leaf clover ☘️
