Wonki Ware, Ireland With each item individually hand made, Wonki Ware has developed a character that is unique, practical, fashionable and most importantly, is of good quality.

As someone once said Wonki Ware even makes an occasion of a fried egg. Wonki Ware at Myrtleville House

Wonki Ware was conceptualized by Di Marshall in 1999 in a small studio in a town called George, located on the Garden Route along the Southern coastline of Africa. Here at Myrtleville House we first discovered Wonki Ware through a group of friends who were very passionate about this stunning pro

duct and equally passionate about the companies’ ethos. In an endeavour to provide employment for the large population of unskilled and uneducated indigenous people of South Africa, Di Marshall devised a method of manufacturing tableware that is easy to teach and relatively easy to learn. On a visit to Di and her factory we were introduced to her first employee, Artwell, a robust member of the Xhosa tribe. When they started communication was obviously very difficult with such huge language and cultural differences. Today she heads her ever-expanding team of Wonki Ware potters. Wonki Ware has since become a popular seller world-wide with stockists including The Conran Shop in London and Paris and Anthropology in New York. Her style has also caught the attention of both Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson who each have their own personal kitchen range for use in books and on television. Wonki Ware is available in Ireland as of last year from Myrtleville House, viewing is by appointment but short notice will usually suffice.
