Hi guys! We have good news and bad news!

We haven’t progressed any more in our struggle with the council. We did send a freedom of information request and we got no answers - except to say that there were no records of any rulings made by Listowel Municipal Council about ‘wheels’ in the square. So if anyone can make sense out of that, please let us know! They are not answering any emails from us so we don’t know what to do!

The good news is that we finally got to open Seaside in Ballybunion! You can find us there almost everyday from 1pm-7pm, just behind the castle. We have your favourite Badger and Dodo coffee, waffles & the best brownies you’ve ever tasted!

Hi guys! We have some sad news. Listowel Municipal Council have told us that we are no longer able to trade in The Square. Some decisions were made which cite old bylaws that mean that no “wheels” are allowed on the cobbles/paving in The Square - which means we are out. Our wheels are essential to how we operate. Our wheels mean that we can have a coffee machine, running water and electricity. We are a business that serves a freshly made product, from Badger and Dodo beans to delicious coffee right when you order it. It is important to say that we got no chance to appeal this decision, we were told we were allowed to trade last week and yesterday we were told we couldn’t anymore. We feel that Kettle and Cup has added to the town for the past week and we were so happy to be told by you, our lovely customers, how delighted you were to see us & get our barista coffee again. We are sad that at a time when so many people are unemployed & businesses are in trouble that Listowel Municipal Council have only stood in our way and have made it impossible to run our business. We have invested time & money in training & learning how to make the best Badger and Dodo coffee and we are heartbroken that we cannot trade in our hometown. We don’t want you to think that we haven’t done all we can to operate within the rules of the Council - we would LOVE to open every day. Please don’t think that we don’t want to be open & serving you coffee. We feel utterly powerless and unsupported by the various powers in control. We don’t know our next step, but please if you have friends or family that came to us for coffee be sure to tell them that we are devastated not to be open & that we have been fighting a losing battle for some time now. Cllr Jimmy Moloney has been so helpful this past week & we know that our local elected officials will continue to stand up for local businesses in these difficult times. We are saddened that there is no support for a young person starting out in North Kerry, and that new initiatives like food trucks - which thrive all over the world - are given no chance to trade in Listowel.

It was lovely to meet Maurice Aylward and Jacqueline Dupont from Newfoundland, who are on holidays in Ballybunion and ce to visit us for coffee at Listowel Farmer's Market this morning!

🎶 Happy Birthday to us! 🎶

We have been serving amazing coffee at the Farmers' Market for 1 whole year, so today we celebrated by offering all our customers some of this delicious birthday cake!
It has been an incredible year getting to know all of our regulars at Listowel Farmer's Market and we look forward to many more (years and regulars). We will also have cake at tomorrow's Listowel parkrun, because we have been there a year too, so if you didn't get some today you can still avoid cake fomo (the worst kind).
