πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ Day 4 Complete πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

Today was the longest day of the journey so far, with an incredible 140km covered on the road from Limerick to Lourdes.

There were plenty of tough climbs, tired legs, and long stretches of road, but the group continues to power on with great determination. Most importantly, everyone is in good spirits, keeping well, and supporting each other every pedal of the way.

Every kilometre brings us one step closer to Lourdes and reminds us why we started this journey in the first place. The encouragement from home has been a huge boost and is greatly appreciated by everyone taking part.

Thank you for following our progress. Tomorrow brings another day, another challenge, and another opportunity to make memories on this remarkable pilgrimage.

πŸš΄β˜€οΈ Day 3: Into Bordeaux – Heat, Grit & Determination β˜€οΈπŸš΄

Day 3 saw the cyclists roll into the beautiful city of Bordeaux after another demanding day on the road.

With temperatures soaring to 36Β°C, today's challenge wasn't just the distanceβ€”it was the relentless heat. Every kilometre required resilience, discipline, and teamwork as the group pushed through the sweltering conditions on their journey.

Despite the scorching weather, spirits remained high, water bottles were constantly being refilled, and the miles continued to tick by. Arriving in Bordeaux was a well-earned reward after a day that tested both body and mind.

These are the days that remind us why endurance cycling is about more than just turning pedals. It's about determination, camaraderie, and finding the strength to keep moving forward when conditions are at their toughest.

Tomorrow brings another stage, another challenge, and another opportunity to make memories on this incredible journey.

πŸ‘ Well done to James and everyone in the group

TRUTH OR TALE? πŸ‘€ | Part 5

🏠 This building was once a toll collector’s house on the King’s Road (or Yellow Road)...

Before cars, buses, and even bicycles, travellers moving along the old route into Limerick may have had to stop and pay a toll to continue their journey. Some local stories claim this building served as the toll collector's house, where fees were gathered from carts, livestock, and merchants using the road.

πŸ’°πŸŽ Imagine arriving with a horse and cart loaded with goods, only to be greeted by a collector looking for payment before lifting the barrier!

But is there any proof? Or is it simply one of those stories that has been passed from generation to generation, growing a little taller with each retelling?

πŸ€” So what do you think?

πŸ‘ TRUTH – It really was a toll collector's house on the King's (Yellow) Road.

❀️ TALE – A great story, but nothing more than local folklore.

β˜€οΈ TRUTH OR TALE? – Part 4

Some say the building itself could tell the time.

The story goes that the shape of the building, combined with the position of its windows, allowed sunlight to move through the interior in a predictable pattern throughout the day. Regulars simply had to look at where the sun was shining to know the hour.

A natural sundial hidden in plain sight... or just a clever tale told over a pint?

πŸ” TRUTH OR TALE? – Part 3

Before alarms, CCTV, and security systems, some say round buildings were designed to confuse intruders.

The theory? Once inside, a thief couldn't easily find their way out. With no obvious corners, no clear beginning or end, every direction looked the same. By the time they found the exit, the occupants would have been alerted.

But is there any truth to it... or is it just another tale passed down through the generations?

Truth or Tale? Part 1 πŸ›’οΈ

Ever noticed something unusual about the building? Its round !!!

Legend has it that when the building was constructed in the 1860s, it was deliberately designed in the shape of a barrel. Why? As a giant advertisement for the business that once operated here β€” a tea, wine, and spirit merchant.

In an era before neon signs, social media, and billboards, the building itself became the brand.

Look closely at the curved frontage and distinctive shape. Was it a clever piece of Victorian marketing designed to catch the eye of thirsty customers passing by? Or is it simply a story that's grown with every pint poured and every tale told?

So, what's your verdict?
