Introduction to Hedge Laying: A Traditional Skill for Biodiversity
November 7 @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

Join award winning Steve Bass of Hedgerows Ireland, with support from Julius Silvan, for a hands-on introduction to the ancient craft of hedge laying.

Hedge laying is a traditional skill that rejuvenates hedgerows, keeping them young, healthy and vigorous for generations to come. Widely regarded as one of the best management practices for our native hedgerows, it plays a vital role in protecting Ireland’s biodiversity and preserving essential habitats for threatened wildlife.

A huge thank you to Julius Silvan, his crew, and everyone involved in organising and delivering a brilliant Farm Forestry Open Day with us.

Thank you also to everyone who came along and helped make the day such a success. There was plenty presented, learned, discussed and thought about throughout the day.

We had a fantastic turnout, with approximately 200 people attending, a great reflection of the interest and enthusiasm for farm forestry.

Finally, a sincere thank you to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine for their support in making this day possible.

A brilliant day all round — thank you to everyone who played a part!
