Green's Bar, Kinvara

Green's Bar, Kinvara Green's Pub in the seaside village of Kinvara, County Galway, Ireland. Originally a grocery, the shelves and drawers remain in place.

A unique, traditional family owned pub, where there is great Guinness, friendly conversation and many impromptu sessions of traditional music. Instead of holding groceries, the shelves now positively sag under the weight of "Green's Bottles", a vast collection of whiskeys, brandies and unusual liquors. You would be hard pressed to name an alcoholic beverage that cannot be found on the shelves. The

pub's two busiest periods are during Kinvara's Fleadh na gCuach (Cuckoo Festival) in May and the Cruinniu na mBad (Gathering of the Boats) in August, when the town celebrates its maritime heritage with one of Ireland's biggest gatherings of Galway Hookers and traditional sailing craft. However, throughout the year you will find traditional music taking place in the pub.

Rozanne Botha has been playing violin since the age of 5 and started playing piano at age 10. She studied Bmus at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa and moved to Ireland 7 years ago to work as a violin and orchestral teacher with Coole Music and Arts. She is currently the leader of the Kinvara Community orchestra and the Burren Baroque Ensemble. She met Sian through these ensembles and they collaborate on various projects.

Siân Eustace has been playing music since the age of 4, starting on violin and then taking up the cello at age 7. After playing near constantly for many years, she took rather a long hiatus on moving to Ireland in 1999 but, since joining Kinvara Community Orchestra a few years ago, she hasn't looked back and is making up for lost time by playing music wherever and whenever she can. She and Rozanne play together in a number of different ensembles and enjoy playing and performing a variety of musical styles and genres.

Launch of New Pat Keane Memorial Bench

The Travellers Inn, Nogra Friday 10 July 5.30pm

Welcome all next Friday and Céad Míle Fáilte to Elaine Fahy’s pub in Nogra where we will celebrate the launch of the New Pat Keane Memorial Bench this coming Friday, the 10th.

Eugene Lambe will pay his personal tribute, playing a few tunes on the uileann pipes. Pat’s granddaughter, Patricia Donohue, will unveil the reconstructed bench and say a few words. Her daughter Méadbh will sing one of Pat’s favourite songs and a trad session will follow inside afterwards, supported by musicians from Aughinish and Kinvara. We are indebted to Elaine Fahy for her continued support in having the bench located outside her premises in Nogra.

Pat Keane, who died in Oct 1995, hailed from Aughinish on the Doorus peninsula.

He was known in his latter years as a great dancer and singer; this venture continues both in fond admiration of the man, and in celebration of the tradition he so aptly represented.

Many thanks also to sculptor Dave Kinane for preparing the new bench for the refit. A special thanks to Richard Johnston who brought his many carpentry skills to bear in assembling this new bench on a voluntary basis. Thanks are also expressed to all who donated to the bench.
