Killarney Mourns the Passing of Eileen Foley

An air of sadness enveloped Killarney this week following the passing of Eileen Foley, a woman whose name was synonymous with both the town and its renowned public house tradition.
For many years, Eileen was the welcoming face behind Foley’s Bar on New Street, where she became a much loved figure among locals and visitors alike. Her warmth, generosity and hospitality earned her the respect and affection of generations of customers, making the family business a much-loved part of Killarney’s social fabric.
Beyond her contribution to the town’s hospitality sector, Eileen was a dedicated member of the Killarney Soroptimist Club, generously giving her time to support the club’s charitable work and community initiatives.
Paying tribute, members of the club said: “There are people who leave a lasting mark on our lives, and Eileen was one of those. We are all so grateful for the time we shared with our fellow sister in the Soroptimist Club, the camaraderie, laughter and memories we will hold onto forever.”
Speaking on the passing of Eileen Foley, President of the Killarney Soroptimist Club, Teresa Irwin spoke about her friend and colleague in the club.
“Eileen was President of Killarney Soroptimist club 1997/98. She was a great member who loved to man the door and meet and greet the people at the Annual Pancake Morning. She accompanied me to all the overseas Conferances before, during and after my National Presidency.
She was joint treasurer with Noeleen O’Sullivan for many years. We will miss her terrible in the club as she was always there with a can do attitude. If there a trip to make or an event to attend Eileen’s name was first on the list”, Teresa said.
Eileen passed away peacefully on 26 June 2026, surrounded by her loving family and in the exceptional care of the nurses and staff at the Mater Private Hospital, Mahon, Co. Cork.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Colm, she is deeply mourned by her loving children, Grace, Cormac, James and Colm. She will be sadly missed by her son-in-law Pat; daughters-in-law Rosemarie, Monika and Leanne; her adored grandchildren Claire, Avril, Laura, Jack, Kate, Conor and Luke; her sister Imelda; brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and her many friends.
Following Requiem Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney, Eileen was laid to rest in Dromavalla Cemetery, Killorglin.
Eileen Foley’s passing marks the end of an era for Killarney. She will be remembered not only as a respected publican but as a devoted family woman, a loyal friend, and a generous community volunteer whose kindness and welcoming spirit touched countless lives. Her legacy will endure through the memories she created, the friendships she nurtured and the lasting impact she made on her beloved town.

Two little Rebels on the way to the Cork v Galway game today in Croker proudly sporting our Charlie Foley's cap ! ❤️🧢

We wont mention any names but I think we all know one of our barmen will be delighted with the cap... & not so much the Cork jerseys! 🤣💛❤️

Safe travels, enjoy the match, and don't give poor Gerry such a hard time 😂

On behalf of the Foley family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the incredible kindness, support, and compassion shown to us over the past few days. ❤️

Hearing your stories of Mom’s warm smile, her effortless hospitality, her cracking sense of humour and the genuine welcome she gave to everyone at Charlie Foley’s has brought us immense comfort. She truly loved the town of Killarney, and knowing how much she meant to the town she called home will forever mean the world to us. 🪽

Mom's warmth, generosity, and beautiful spirit will never be forgotten. She will live on forever in the hearts of all of us and the bar she loved so much.

Thank you all,
The Foley Family ❤️

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Eileen.

Eileen was the heart and the soul of Charlie Foley's.. Killarney's oldest family-run bar. Her warmth, kindness and unwavering dedication created a place where everyone felt welcome, and her legacy will live on in the countless memories shared within these walls.

We extend our deepest sympathies to all of Eileen's family, friends and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
May her legacy live on with the stories we share with her.

Panicking what to get him for Father’s Day? 🍻..
Dont over think it..Dads are easy bought for really. 😉

A pair of socks.
A nice t-shirt.
A glass for the whiskey.
And the whiskey itself.

Sure what more would a man want? 🍻

They can be your usual Father’s Day gifts… or they can be the Charlie Foley’s version..a step up from the standard. 😉
