In town for the Arts Festival? Drop in for dinner and experience Petronella.

Nestled on Kilkenny’s historic Butter Slip Lane, Petronella is housed in a beautifully preserved building dating back to 1602. Rich in character, its original stone walls, timber beams and centuries-old architecture offer a glimpse into medieval Kilkenny.

The restaurant takes its name from Petronella de Meath, the maidservant of Alice Kyteler. In 1324, Petronella became the first woman in Ireland to be executed for heresy and witchcraft, burned at the stake just a short walk from the restaurant at what is now the site of Kilkenny’s Town Hall. Her story remains one of the city’s most compelling and poignant chapters.
