People have been asking about our rainbow eggs! 🌈
They are colourful olive green, pastel blue and creamy white eggs laid by hens like Betty (see picture!)
Betty is one of the few more unusual breeds of hen we have like Araucana, Skyline and Barred Rock. They lay less often than the traditional Rhode island reds but when they do it is worth the wait!
Their eggs have coloured pastel shells but are nutritionally the same as brown shelled eggs.
Because the hens themselves cost more outright, take the same ammount of looking after as the others and eat the same ammount of food, their 'cost to reward' ratio is less, making them more expensive to look after. This means we charge a little extra for these special eggs. Of course, to us the reward is just seeing them out and about enjoying life and able to retire in the garden ☀️
