Martry Mill

Martry Mill Martry Mill is a family-run watermill on the River Blackwater. It has been operated by the Tallon family since 1859.

The oldest known record of a mill here dates back to a 1323 land survey. Traditional family run watermill run by the Tallon Family since 1859. Martry Mill is located on the River Blackwater outside Kells, County Meath. First records of Mill is the census of 1641 where townland of Martry had a mill and twenty cabins. James Tallon, current owner of the mill, is the fourth generation of Tallon men to run the mill. The Mill produces a traditional wholemeal flour.

Siamsa Glas Feile next weekend 🎉 Bread baking at the mill is sold out already 😎 but do check out the homemade brown bread baking competition at Halla Bhaile Ghib 👩‍🍳 for 2:30pm on the Sunday.

Siamsa Glas is a festival of Irish music and culture along the Boyne Valley to Lakeland’s Greenway.

We had a lovely openday yesterday to celebrate Lughnasadh and the Tailteann games.

Congratulations to my friend Geraldine on winning the national ICA bread baking competition. I was delighted to catch her up whilst getting the mill ready for the openday baking class.

Geraldine will be representing the Athboy ICA and county Meath in the National bread making final at the ploughing championships ❤️

We had a lovely open-day last weekend so I have added two more dates. On August 1st to celebrate Lughnasa & the Tailteann Games and on September 12th for the Siamsa Glas festival .

Mill wheel repairs…before and after…all that rain in January & February took its toll on the mill wheel..two paddles came off..and some sluice gate damage too…many thanks to my friends and neighbours for helping with the repairs…we got the new paddle fitted on the May bank holiday weekend 🙏🙌👏💪😎

Happy Summer 🌞 Have a great Bealtaine weekend🎉Traditionally planting season for the farmer so I have been working on my wildflower bank 😀 Its also the time to let the bull out to do his planting too, nine months before Imbolc, the first Farming festival of the year..
For the miller it’s time to work millwheel repairs too 🤪
