Nolan's Bar โ Castleblakeney, Co. Galway
Nolan's Bar is a long-established village pub in Castleblakeney, between Mountbellew and Ballinasloe. Property details describe it as a landmark public house in the centre of the village, occupying a substantial premises of approximately 573 square metres, with a bar, lounge, accommodation, yard and outbuildings.
What makes Nolan's particularly interesting is its strong connection with local community life and darts. The pub has hosted darts competitions for many years. A 2013 announcement for the Nolan's Christmas Cup advertised six permanent dartboards, while the Galway Darts Association has also held county ranking events at the pub.
The connection with darts has continued into recent years, with Nolan's hosting the Nolan's Cup, an open competition carrying a substantial prize fund. The pub also hosts traditional Irish music, karaoke, live entertainment and community events.
The pub has also played a part in the Castleblakeney Heritage and Summer Festival, hosting traditional music sessions as part of the village's annual celebrations.
Today, Nolan's remains very much a traditional community pub โ open fires, music, darts, pool and the sort of local social atmosphere that has made village pubs such an important part of rural Ireland.
