The reason it was situated here came about in 1798, during the Rebellion when the British decided to construct a 27-mile road through the Dublin Mountains (the Military Road), into the heartland of County Wicklow, with the objective of capturing Michael Dwyer and his fellow insurgents. It was the last stop along the way that they could have a drink before setting across the mountain. It was taken
over from the D'alton family in 1954 by a man named Tom Bugler, a Clareman who wanted to get out of the city and closer to the subarbs. He then passed the pub to his Son, Liam Bugler who was indeed the man for the Swinging 60's, and is still talked about and admired to this day. In 2007 when Liam passed away, his son Paschal Bugler took over the family business. 2 of Liams grandchildren also work here along with a great, friendly and helpful team of staff.
