The St. James's Gate Brewery once operated Ireland's most extensive private factory railway system, spanning 16.09 kilometers of track, with 12.87 kilometers dedicated to narrow gauge, featuring innovative elements such as a narrow gauge spiral tunnel passing underneath St. James's Street, ingenious conversion wagons allowing narrow gauge locomotives to work on broad gauge sidings, and a unique design of narrow gauge locomotive specifically suited to the needs of the site.
