Rebekka Sauerdough

Rebekka Sauerdough Authentic German Sauerdough Bread I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like bread – brown bread, soda bread, flat bread or plain old white sliced pan.

I also know that when I moved to Ireland from Germany in 2004 I found it hard to get the bread I love – sourdough. A beautiful brown bread with a small hint of sourness. sourdough goes so well with food such as chowder or simply on its own topped with butter. So to solve my own problem I started to bake it myself! I have sourced the essential rye flour from a miller and bread baker in Bettystown a

nd have set to work in my own kitchen. The bread is baked by making sourdough with the rye flour by fermentation and then mixing this with other flours, giving a strong texture with a crispy crust. I offer a small range of sourdough loaves with flavours added by olive, walnut and mixed seeds etc. With the assistance of the good people at Donabate Portrane Transition Towns, I am selling my bread at the Saturday market at Donabate Parish Hall, hope to see you there and I’ll keep a sample of Sourdough for you!

I've been busy during the spell of summer last week by making the first batches of elderflower cordial. My house smelled lemony-elderflowery for days and the finished product is delicious!!!! I have some at tomorrows market. Come down and sample it!

Stepping into the garden to cool down from the heat in my kitchen doesn't work today as quickly as usual. I love sitting outside on a day like this!!!! Have my alarm on a 15min repeat to attend to breads tho.

A BIG Thank You to all my loyal customers who have supported me and my colleagues at the Donabate Market. I hope to see you all tomorrow - it's Apple day again - so come and get your apples pressed. It will be the last market for me until the x-mas market. If you are interested in getting some bread, leave me your email and I will let you know when I am baking so you can pre-order.

Thanks again for your support! Rebekka

The communal apple press we had at the market today was a great success, it was used around the clock and I got delicious fresh apple juice from my apples (Thanks Sean for giving me a hand!). If you have apples or pears you'd like to convert into apple juice, come down to Donabate Market on a Saurday. It's our press and it will be there for you to use!

I made my first EVER soda bread today (honestly never thought I would). It's a friend's receipe and it turned out really tasty. I savoured nearly the whole of my trial loaf. I will make a few more for you to taste (and one will travel to Galway for my family-in-law). See you tomorrow at the market. And don't forget it's voucher Saturday. 10% off your purchase!

I will have a new bread variety for tomorrow's Market. Organic rye and wheat wholemeal sourdough with sunflower seeds. I also made a few bottles of cordial for summerfruit lemonade. I added blackcurrant from my garden to it which gave it a wonderful pink colour. Drop by and sample it, it's really refreshing!
