A €933,000 funding boost for the redevelopment of The Phoenix in Di**le, under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund, has been confirmed.
Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy and his wife Yvonne McGuinness have purchased building - a former cinema - and adjacent land.
The funding will support the design and planning phase for a transformative project that will see the site revitalised into a vibrant cultural and tourism hub in the heart of Di**le.
The allocation has been welcomed by Minister Norma Foley and Deputy Michael Cahill.
The funding will allow for the preparation of architectural designs and plans to refurbish and extend the site, which will feature a cinema, multi-use black box performance space, creative outdoor event areas, artists’ studios, a gallery and dedicated social spaces.
Once completed, it is expected to have a significant impact on local tourism and cultural life, attracting visitors and encouraging longer stays in the region.
