We’ve just received a lovely new order from Sarah & Olive, bringing some exceptional Spanish extra virgin olive oils to The Pigs Back.

As a food emporium, we’re always looking for products that are not only delicious, but made with care and of the very best quality — and these oils certainly fit the bill. From fruity and delicate to wonderfully peppery and robust, there’s an EVOO to suit every palate. 🫒

And it’s not just about the flavour! Extra virgin olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fats and naturally occurring polyphenols, and is a key part of the Mediterranean way of eating. Research has linked Mediterranean-style diets rich in olive oil with better cardiovascular health, particularly when olive oil replaces fats higher in saturated fat.

We also have a beautiful range of olive oils and balsamic vinegars from The Real Olive Company, so if you’re looking for something special to drizzle over a salad, dip with fresh bread, finish a dish or give as a foodie gift, come and have a browse. 🥖✨

🧀 A little cheese appreciation for your Monday… 🧀

Look at this beauty! Our cheese counter at On the Pigs Back in the English Market is looking particularly gorgeous today. 😍

From the classics of France 🇫🇷 — which we import directly — to our very special pallets of wonderful produce from the Basque region of France, there’s plenty to get excited about.

And then there’s Ireland… 🇮🇪

When we started On the Pigs Back 33 years ago, there were only a handful of Irish farmhouse cheese producers. Fast forward to today and we’re spoiled for choice, with hundreds of brilliant artisan cheesemakers producing incredible cheeses right here in Ireland.

We’re proud to have a fabulous selection of them alongside our French favourites — from cow, goat and sheep’s milk cheeses, there really is something for every cheese lover. 🐄🐐🐑

So, the only difficult decision is…

We're still smiling after last Thursday's incredible night of live music here at On the Pigs Back. 🎶

A huge thank you to the amazing Blissín Ceol for filling our little shop with such a wonderful mix of folk, indie, and lively jazzy tunes. Their talent, energy, and passion made it a truly memorable evening that we'll be talking about for a long time.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came along to support live, local music and our small local business. Seeing so many familiar and new faces enjoying the evening together made it incredibly special.

We're delighted to say that Blissín Ceol will be back with us next year, and we can't wait to welcome them again for another fantastic night of music.

Thanks to everyone who joined us last night at On the Pig's Back, Douglas for what was a truly fantastic concert! 🎶✨

A huge thank you to the incredible Blissín Ceol, whose outstanding talent lit up the room with a wonderful mix of funky, upbeat tunes, mellow indie vibes, and plenty of Gaeilge throughout the evening.

The atmosphere was electric, and it was so heartening to see such a great turnout in support of live music and our local community.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh to the band and to everyone who came along and made the night such a roaring success. We can't wait to do it all again.
