🍷💗 PINK IS NOT DEAD 💗🧀

What a fantastic evening we had hosting the Pink Is Not Dead wine and cheese tasting with Uncorked Wine Society last Friday at On the Pigs Back, Douglas.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for an evening of vibrant rosés, characterful orange wines, intriguing skin-contact wines, and of course, plenty of exceptional cheese! It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the pairings, discovering new favourites, and sharing their passion for great food and wine.

We're delighted to have partnered with Uncorked Wine Society for such a successful event and loved seeing the conversations, laughter, and full glasses throughout the evening.

Good news for Hegarty’s fans — our beloved local cheddar is finally back in stock at On the Pig’s Back in the English Market and Douglas after a brief hiatus while the cheeses were carefully maturing 🧀

We’ve worked closely with Dan Hegarty and JB for many years and were proudly the very first people to stock Hegarty’s Cheddar when it began production. To this day, it remains the most local cheese we carry.

Made just outside Cork City in Whitechurch from the Hegarty family’s own herd, this traditional cloth-bound cheddar is hand-milled, hand-salted and slowly matured for over 12 months to develop its rich, nutty, savoury flavour and beautifully crumbly texture.

This is proper farmhouse cheddar — crafted with patience, skill and incredible milk.

If you’ve been waiting for it to return, now’s the time to call in and get a piece before it disappears again!

What a wonderful evening we had last night at On the Pigs Back celebrating the opening of our latest exhibition featuring the incredible collaboration between local artists Lisa Moynihan and Maria Healy.

Their stunning collection of colourful textiles and abstract paintings has completely transformed our walls and brought such warmth, creativity, and vibrancy into the space. We were also treated to a very special performance from Lisa’s sister, Vicky Moynihan, whose breathtaking opera singing truly captivated everyone in the room.

At On the Pigs Back, we have always been passionate supporters of the arts, and it is both a pleasure and a privilege to showcase the work of talented local artists in our restaurant.

There are still some beautiful pieces available for sale, so why not call in for a coffee, a bite to eat, and soak up the wonderful atmosphere and culture — all while enjoying our delicious artisan local delicacies.
