Today is a day of celebration: our family restaurant in the heart of Douglas is officially 30 years old! Hard to believe we’ve been serving the community for three decades and even harder to believe some of you are still ordering the exact same dish you ordered in 1995. (Consistency is a virtue… or so we tell ourselves!)
One of the greatest joys over the years has been watching generations grow. When we first opened our doors, families came in with their young children, climbing up on chairs and colouring menus while their parents chatted over dinner. Today, those same children are all grown up and now they’re coming in with children of their own. Seeing generations return through our doors has been one of the greatest honours of these past 30 years.
Over the years, we’ve shared so many incredible moments together. From Christmas nights where the place was so busy we briefly reconsidered all our life choices, to quiet Monday dinners that somehow turned into full-blown therapy sessions at table 7 this restaurant has seen it all. And through it all, it’s become a real cornerstone of Douglas.
Of course, mixed in with all the joy are some deeply heartfelt memories too. We think of Dave, whose spirit still lives in every corner of this place and in the turn of phrase we all still use. His presence shaped who we are today, and his memory will continue to guide us, we also remember our dear young team member, Deirdre Lynch, who left us far too soon.
In all of this, the laughs, the chaos, the tears, the triumphs, and the occasional messed up order (we swear has never happened twice) , we’ve become more than just a restaurant. We’ve become a family. Staff, customers, friends… and those of you who practically have assigned seating at this stage.
As we step forward into the next chapter, we do so with immense gratitude and maybe a slightly stronger back brace than we needed in the early days. Thank you for every memory, every meal, every chat, and every moment you’ve shared with us.
Here’s to honoring the past, cherishing the present, and embracing a bright, exciting, and probably still slightly chaotic future together. Cheers to 30 years and to many more!
