What’s On in West Cork – April 2026

Welcome to the Easter edition of What’s On In West Cork. As you would expect there is a good bit of entertainment in this issue.

For the children there is a chance to meet the Easter Bunny at the Model Village in Clonakilty. The event runs from 3rd – 5th April. There is also a Kids’ Easter Camp at the Wild Atlantic Pool in Baltimore, running from 6th – 10th April.

For the adults, Casey’s Bar and Restaurant in Clonakilty offers a serious line up of music throughout April. Live By The Bay at The Maritime Hotel also has some great entertainment coming up.

Our recipe from the garden this month is homemade rhubarb ice cream, the recipe looks daunting but I am assured it is fairly simple to make.

Our history columnist Michelle O’Mahony explores Easter – A Feast of Traditions, Flavours and Whispers of Superstition.

It is hard to believe that twelve months have elapsed and here we are with the 2025 edition of A West Cork Christmas.
As I write this, we are enjoying an unseasonably mild November but despite this now is the time to start planning for a simply great Christmas. Bandon Vet, Gavin Russell provides some useful tips for anyone thinking of buying a puppy for Christmas. Remember puppies grow up, dogs have to be exercised in bad weather and you have them for life and not just a Christmas novelty.
As the jumps season gathers momentum, it is interesting to talk with Dunmanway jockey, Gavin Sheehan who is now riding in the UK.
We have competitions for you to enter and festive recipes to try. Michelle O’Mahony, History Consultant indulges in some Christmas nostalgia with an article on toys of yesteryear.

After all the excitement of Christmas, banish the winter blues! David Caldwell takes you through a trip to Malaga – The Gateway to the Costa Sol, which is easily accessible from Cork Airport.

The team at WO Media & Publishing would like to wish you and yours the compliments of the season.

What’s On in West Cork – 24 July 2025

Our history columnist has done an interesting article on The Banks of the Lovely Lee, the article is very interesting and informative even though we were not singing the anthem after The All Ireland Hurling Final.

In this edition we have a piece from Dunmanway resident David Caldwell on the famous Ballabuidhe Races and festivities. We also look forward to the Bandon Walled Town Festival.

Bandon is a town that has been plagued by roadworks so let’s hope the sun shines on them and they have a huge attendance.

Once again we are grateful to Ann Marie Butler of Wild Garlic @ Fado in Bantry for a fabulous fishy recipe.

Summer is here, so let's get out and about in West Cork!

The festival and show season is well and truly upon us now, offering plenty to get involved in throughout the region. Over the peak summer many of the bars have live music to enjoy and for sports lovers several of the pubs show live matches on the big screen so no need to miss anything.

Cork is the Foodie capital of Ireland so why not sample some of the region’s remarkable restaurants where authentic food is available to suit every palate and budget?

Several of the West Cork towns and villages hold a weekly farmers market. These offer a wide choice of local, seasonal produce with much of it from artisan producers. There are always plenty of goodies to sample in a vibrant and relaxed atmosphere.
