Today marks the closure of Purple Root on James St. Westport. Two years ago Sept 2012, I was intent on opening a Raw Vegan Cafe, to address Obesity in Ireland, I opened the Cafe , but did I get to address the issue, well yes and no, Nationwide RTE, helped enormously in supporting this desire by featuring my business on their show, The Irish Times also plugged the efforts I was making, Irish TV, based in Westport contributed too in highlighting my efforts as well as interviews on many radio stations. However, while my passion for this subject needs no further comment, the toll this played on my body and indeed my children, who are my greatest supporters, finally caught up with me. In June I suffered back injury due to excessive strain. While on this path I developed a comprehensive programme for tackling Obesity, which took me into the wee hours of many nights to develop and was submitted to various Govt Depts, all to non comitial replies.
I want to say thanks to my former staff Stephen and Ruth for giving their all to the business and most recently business partner Nancy, who came on board with great knowledge and desire to feed people good food. Purple Root will return, but just now a break is needed. Perhaps the requests for a cook book or indeed classes might be fulfilled during this time. Please stay tuned, as it's not a goodbye, just a recuperation! Thanks to all who supported and availed of Purple Root Cafe.
