It’s with incredibly heavy hearts that we have to share some very sad news. 💔

Our little Beer Garden Manager, Murphy, was sadly knocked down last night and passed away on her way to the vet. 😢🐾

Although Murphy only officially joined the Muskerry Arms team a few weeks ago, she had already made herself very much at home and, more importantly, she had made herself very much loved. ❤️

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who stopped to say hello to her, gave her a little fuss, and especially to all of you who brought in treats and spoiled her rotten. She certainly knew she was loved. 🥹🐱❤️

We also want to say a very special thank you to the kind lady who found Murphy, stopped and took the time to bring her to the vet. We are so grateful that she didn’t leave her and did everything she could to get her help. We know it must have been an incredibly upsetting thing to come across, and we truly appreciate her kindness. ❤️

Congratulations to Maura Twomey of Ireland for successfully crossing the Catalina Channel in the unofficial time of 15:45:23 (pending ratification).

At 70 years old, Maura becomes the oldest person to successfully cross the Catalina Channel. And while she was at it, she also completed the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.

Catalina did not give up either accomplishment easily. The swim started hard and only got harder. Maura began in 12 knot winds, chop, and swells that never completely settled. Then, during the final few hours, conditions turned epic. Winds kicked up to 20 knots, blowing Maura off course and turning an already difficult swim into a battle to reach the California coast. She kept swimming.

For the final stretch, both kayakers and her crew chief, Elaine Howley, accompanied her toward shore. Maura then had one final obstacle: scrambling up a rocky shoreline to complete the swim, skinning her knee in the process.

Maura swam aboard the Kamryn Dawson, supported by crew chief Elaine Howley and crew member and support swimmer Barbara Coucci. Kayak support was provided by Sidney Russell and Angela Lee, while David Sundius and Joel Virgil served as CCSF Official Observers.

70 years old. 15:45:23. A new Catalina Channel age record. A Triple Crown. And one skinned knee.

🐾 MEET THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE MUSKERRY ARMS TEAM! 🐾

After arriving here as a tiny kitten about 8 weeks ago, one thing became very clear… she had absolutely no intention of leaving! 😂

She’s been fed, spoiled, looked after and has officially decided that the Muskerry Arms is now HER home. So, after much discussion (and absolutely no say from her), we’ve decided to make it official and welcome her to the team! ❤️

We’re thinking (LuLu) Murphy for her name… because she’s already made herself very much at home! 🍀🐱

Murphy’s official job title is Beer Garden Manager, although her main duties seem to be sleeping, posing for photos, supervising customers and demanding attention. 😂

🐾 Important: Murphy will only be found in the beer garden. Our indoor bar and restaurant remain animal-free, so if you’re not a cat person, you’re safe! 😆

So if you’re visiting us, keep an eye out for our newest little team member… she’ll probably be keeping an eye on you too! 🐱❤️
