So what are the differences between the four types of coffee beans? What are the specialties of each coffee bean?
Arabica
Initially Arabica coffee grew wild in Ethiopia. Then arabica was consumed, famous, and flew to various parts of the world.
Reporting from Homegrounds, Arabica controls almost 60 percent of the world coffee market.
Arabica has a friendlier taste in the mouth than robusta. It has a sweet and sour taste, and has a more complex flavor layer than robusta.

Arabica coffee is also susceptible to pests. That is why, this type of coffee should be grown homogeneously. When planted heterogeneously and pests spread, the existing pests can instantly damage the cultivation of other crops.
Robusta
Robusta sits at number two in the world coffee market, after Arabica coffee.
The name robusta is taken from the nature of this coffee which is more "robust" or sturdy, can live in a more flexible environment than arabica.
Although it is easier to plant or cultivate and is stronger against pests, Robusta's popularity is below Arabica because Robusta does not have the variety of taste and aroma like Arabica.
Robusta coffee is darker, contains more caffeine, and the taste is more focused on earthy flavor, which smells like earth after rain, aka does not have a fruity aroma like arabica.
Robusta is much sought after by coffee lovers who adore the strong, bitter taste of coffee. Robusta is also the most suitable type of coffee bean processed into espresso.
Liberica
Liberica has a unique aroma and taste. The combination of the taste and aroma of flowers, fruit, and a hint of smoke that smells of wood.
Although not a favorite of the world community, the taste of Liberica coffee is adored by its fans.
Liberica coffee trees grow taller than Arabica and Robusta coffee. Liberica coffee is more powerful in survival than arabica. These coffee beans can live even in less fertile soil.
Reporting from Diperpa, Bandung Regency, the scientific name of liberica coffee is Coffea liberica var. Liberica is said to have originated in Liberia, although it is also found growing wild in other parts of Africa.
In Indonesia, liberika is found in Jambi and Bengkulu. In Jambi, liberica production is concentrated in the Tanjung Jabung area.
Excelsa
The world coffee market is dominated by 70 percent arabica, 28 percent robusta, and the rest is a combination of liberica and excelsa.
Excelsa coffee beans are often confused with liberica. This is because ekselsa also grows in the same environment as liberika, and the tree can also grow tall like liberika.
But in terms of taste and aroma, ekselsa is slightly different from liberika. Ekselsa has a taste that tends to be fruity.
Quoted from Kominfo Jatim, Carangwulung Village, Wonosalam, Jombang Regency, is one of the best excels coffee producers in East Java.
Coffee from Carangwulung Village is said to have a dominant bitter taste, but is decorated with a little sweet, sour and also astringent.
So which is the best coffee bean we can choose? Choose coffee beans according to the taste we want.
If you want coffee with a light taste and a slightly sour aroma, then choose Arabica. Arabica is categorized based on the character of its taste, such as the character of fruit, flowers, nuts and chocolate.
But if you want coffee with a heavier taste and tends to be bitter, you can choose Robusta, Liberika or Ekselsa.
