In 2014 three people—Ayip Budiman, Roberto Aria Putra and William Sutioso—sat in an empty, derelict building located in the rougher end of Sanur with a dream of turning it into a thriving centre of creativity.
With the help of legendary architect Yoka Sara they designed a purpose-built space for Bali & Indonesia's young creatives from all art forms, from all walks of life.
In 2015 Rumah Sanur - Creative Hub opened its doors. Over the next 5 years, 160,000 people attended over 2,000 concerts, performances, films, exhibitions, talks & workshops. Big-name Indonesian and international artists took to Rumah Sanur’s stages, stages that were equally a launchpad for many emerging artists.
Rumah Sanur fostered countless collaborations—with over 200 local and international organisations working with Rumah Sanur to deliver specialist programs and events.
The community made Rumah Sanur their home and from early morning to very late at night there was always an energy, an excitement, a feeling of possibilities.

In 2020 double tragedy struck Rumah Sanur with the passing of Ayip, a true visionary who promoted Indonesia's creativity with every fibre of his being, and of course COVID.
Running a creative endeavour at the best of times takes magician-level-management to keep it sustainable, but two years of lost income has had a devastating impact. So it is with great sadness we let you know that at the end of this month Rumah Sanur - Creative Hub will shut its doors for the last time.
While we may be closing our physical doors, we know the connections made at Rumah Sanur and its spirit will live on and continue to inspire other spaces into the future. To every person who came to Rumah Sanur, we want to say thank you, it was the community that made Rumah Sanur what it was.
To each of the tireless and dedicated Rumah Sanur team who worked so hard over the years, you created something truly special which will live on in peoples' memories.
