Did you know that trams once passed right in front of Kazbek?

These wonderful photographs, shared with us by the Facebook group Dubrovnik nekad, take us back to a very different Lapadska obala. The first, taken around 1950, shows tram tracks being replaced just outside what is today Hotel Kazbek, while the second captures the tram making its way along the waterfront.

Dubrovnik had its own electric tram system for 60 years, from 1910 until 1970. The original line connected Pile with Gruž, with a later extension towards Lapad bringing the tram along this very stretch of the coast.

For generations of Dubrovnik residents, the tram was part of everyday life – and Dubrovnik was the only city in Dalmatia to have one.

Some guests notice it the moment they enter the courtyard. Others discover it while relaxing by the pool. Almost everyone asks the same question: “What tree is this?”
Our Araucaria, better known as the Monkey Puzzle Tree, has been growing alongside Kazbek for many years. Native to South America, it has become one of the hotel’s most recognisable features—and one of our favourite backdrops for photographs.
This year marks another small milestone: for the first time, all three of its main shoots are visible above the rooftops.
Like Kazbek itself, it continues to grow while quietly preserving its character.
