Once a floating palace in Aberdeen Harbour, the Jumbo Floating Restaurant was a symbol of the city- hosting everyone from Queen Elizabeth II to Hollywood icons, and even appearing in films as a set for Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, and even Godzilla.

But behind the neon lights and carved dragons… was a deeper story.

From a tragic fire before it even opened and years of financial loss, to its quiet disappearance in 2022, what most people saw was only ever the surface.

And yet, for those who experienced it… it was something else entirely:

A spectacle.
A ritual.
A place you brought people to feel Hong Kong.

We spoke to someone who remembers it firsthand as a moment in time.
