Hello October. 🩵

We wish you a month filled with good health, good days and plenty of reasons to sit a little longer around the table.

October is our last month at Sofia before the winter comes, but it has never really felt like a goodbye. It is a month of familiar faces, of people who have been coming back to us for decades, of long lunches, glasses of w**e and the joy of seeing someone again after another summer has passed.

And even when the weather turns a little quieter, there is still something lovely about an afternoon by the sea, good food on the table and time spent with the people you love.

We are already looking back on a beautiful summer, and looking forward to the weeks still ahead.

Here’s to October, and to all the familiar faces we still get to welcome through our doors. 🩵

Plakias began as a small fishing community by the sea. Sofia’s husband Giorgos was a fisherman, bringing the day’s catch back to the little taverna where she cooked, welcomed people and gathered them around her table.

Efthimis grew up with the sea as part of everyday life. We’ve heard some of his stories before. Maybe it’s time for a few more? Let us know…🩵

Today we celebrate Sofia 🩵 The woman who opened a little taverna in Plakias, back when the village was still a small fishing community by the sea.

The little taverna grew. Plakias grew. And today, Sofia is a much bigger place than it was back then, still guided by the same values and traditions.

Sofia’s name is still above the door, and her story is still part of every table we set. Today, we celebrate our Sofia and the restaurant that carries her name with pride.

Χρόνια πολλά, to our Sofia and all the Sofias celebrating their name day today. Wishing you all a beautiful and blessed year ahead. 🩵

Καλό μήνα, September. 🩵 Every month arrives with its own little beginning. A chance to slow down, start again, make plans, or simply enjoy what is already here.

Slowly, slowly, summer begins to soften. The days grow a little quieter, the evenings a little gentler, but here in Plakias, there is still plenty of sunshine, warm sea and time for one more long lunch by the water.
May September bring you good days, good people, a little more time for the things you love, and many reasons to sit around a table and stay a little longer.

We’re looking forward to familiar faces, old friends and new ones, and all the beautiful hours this month will bring.

Over the last few days, the hearts and thoughts of all of us at the ‘Sofia’ Restaurant have been with the Municipality of Agios Vasilios and all the areas of southern Rethymno that are being severely affected by the devastating fires.

We express our deep sorrow at the loss of our fellow citizens and the biblical devastation of our region. We wish to express our boundless respect and gratitude to the firefighters, volunteers and residents who are selflessly battling the flames under adverse conditions.

Our restaurant remains open and is operating as normal, providing a safe haven for those in the area.

We consider it our duty to offer practical support to those battling the fires.
In collaboration with the local authorities and volunteer groups, our kitchen is systematically preparing and distributing free meals and bottled water to firefighters, volunteers and displaced residents of the affected villages.

We wish for the fires to be extinguished quickly and for strength to all.

Crete has always found a way to rebuild itself through the solidarity of its people

These are days of deep sorrow for our region… Our sincerest condolences.

The entire team at the ‘Sofia’ Restaurant is deeply shocked by the loss of our fellow citizens in the devastating fires that struck the Amari area. There are no words that can ease the pain of this unjust loss.

We wish to express, from the bottom of our hearts, our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the families, relatives and loved ones of those who have died.

The entire region of Rethymno mourns with you. We stand respectfully alongside those who are suffering at this time and continue to pray for the strength of the firefighters and volunteers battling on the front lines of the blaze.
