Long before the Hugo Spritz found its way to sunny beaches and holiday sunsets, it was born in the mountains of northern Italy. In 2005, a bartender named Roland Gruber wanted to create something lighter, fresher, and more floral than the classic spritz. Mixing elderflower liquor, sparkling wine, soda water, fresh mint, and lime, he accidentally created a drink that would travel far beyond the Alps.
Today, that same refreshing spirit has found a new home by the sea at Funkyland Beach Bar Restaurant in Agios Gordios.
Imagine this: the sun slowly dipping into the Ionian Sea, warm sand beneath your feet, the sound of waves dancing with your favorite summer tunes, and a perfectly chilled Hugo Spritz in your hand. The fresh aroma of mint, the delicate sweetness of elderflower, and the sparkle of every sip feel like summer itself bottled into a glass.
At Funkyland, we believe every cocktail tells a story. The Hugo's story began high in the Italian mountains, but tonight it continues on our beach, with travelers, dreamers, friends, and sunset lovers from all around the world.
So if you're looking for the taste of summer, follow the mint leaves, find your seat by the sea, and raise a glass with us.
Cheers to sunsets, sea breezes, and a little Alpine magic at Funkyland.
