Dearest friends and customers of Hidden Garden,
If you’ve dined with us over the years, you’ll no doubt be familiar with Abby - the famous stray German Shepherd of Argostoli who was loved and cared for by so many people. She wasn’t just another stray, she was part of the town, and part of the Hidden Garden family.
It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share the news that Abby passed away yesterday.
Abby had a few favourite places around Argostoli where she’d spend her days, but Hidden Garden became her home every evening. Like clockwork, she’d wander through our gate, make her way to her cool little corner, patiently wait for her dinner, and settle in for the night. She adored the attention from our customers, and so many of you made sure she never went without a cuddle, a scratch behind the ears or a little treat. It was something that always made us smile.
They say that when a dog’s time comes, they quietly wander away to be alone. But a dog’s intuition is an incredible thing. Somehow, Abby seemed to know that our Sandra wouldn’t be far behind. Sandra found her only moments after she had passed. As heartbreaking as that moment was, we take comfort in knowing that someone who loved her so deeply was there with her at the end.
We’ll miss seeing her stroll through the restaurant every evening as though she owned the place. We’ll miss how she’d somehow always recognise our cars, even during the winter months, and appear out of nowhere with that familiar wag of her tail. If she spotted one of us walking through town, she’d happily es**rt us all the way back to the restaurant.
Abby wasn’t ours, but somehow she belonged to all of us. There will be an Abby-shaped hole at Hidden Garden, and an even bigger one in the heart of Argostoli.
Thank you, beautiful girl, for choosing to spend your evenings with us over the past few years. We hope you knew just how loved you were.
