What a fantastic week is coming up to the GB! Come and join us to recover from the back-to-school rush and make the most of these ale-inviting temperatures.
We have:

- Monday (7 Sept): Our Open Mic remains popular as a showcase of some of the best talents in York. It starts at 8 pm, but get here early to get on Tom’s list.

- Tuesday (8 Sept): Feeling smart? Come and test it in our fun and wide-ranging pub quiz. It includes a kazoo round and Ben’s sense of humour. 8.30 pm start.

- Thursday (10 Sept): Join us at the Crescent for the first edition of Pub Soundclash! Our team will be on the decks alongside the Crescent crew, bringing a vibrant mix of sounds and styles. Expect a variety of musical tastes, but most importantly, a night for your favourite team to truly shine. From 7 pm.

- Friday (11 Sept): Our Latin Night have been with us for a total of 5 years!!!! And to celebrate, the amazing York Latinos are giving us a live show not to be forgotten. Music from 8 pm. ¡Que comience la fiesta!

- Saturday (12 Sept): Groovetone and their fantastic party set are taking over our main bar to raise funds for Venezuelan charity Chamos! Dance, drink, and support children in need! From 8 pm.

- Sunday (13 Sept): Baby Band is back in our lovely Garden Room. This is just one of our favourite events to host! Places are sold out, but you can still join the waiting list in case anyone misses it. It is free, but booking is essential. From 2.30 pm.

- Sunday (13 Sept): Finally, the week will close with our amazing and traditional folk session in the Garden Room from 8 pm.

Tonight is Vinyl Night from 8 pm in our main bar...
And you know what is great about Vinyl Night: the chance to meet new people, listen to good music, expand your taste, etc.
But they're also great at putting their heads together to do nice things!
They organised the fantastic Jukebox Party this weekend and a Raffle, to raise a total of £581, with the pub contributing £280, making a total of £781 for Yorkshire Wildlife Trust

All this for their efforts to rescue Askham Bog!

Thank you to everyone who donated prizes for our raffle, including Evolve Hairdressing, Millie’s York, Pextons Hardware, The Bishy Weigh, and regulars Mandy Hodge, Gill Rushworth. Kate Fuller, and Denise Mackenzie.

Thank you as well to Alison Reboul for making sure the raffle tickets were selling well. And the DJ for making sure the music never stopped.

And thank you to all who put their records in the mix for the requests!

Two amazing gigs are coming to the GB next week, both with groove for dancing.

On Friday (11 Sept), we are happy to welcome back York Latinos and their Salsa to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of our Latin Night! Close enough to Central America, Mexico and Chile celebrations! So lots of reasons to dance for.
Free entry, but we are still collecting items for Venezuela!

On Saturday (12 Sept), Groovetone is back with their dancing party to keep the party going! They are helping us raise funds for the very important Venezuelan charity Chamos, which protects children amid the tragedy in Venezuela!

Free entry! Do not forget to donate.

It’s the last bank holiday Monday of the year! Join us for a drink in our lovely b**r garden or our traditional listed interiors. We have the best selection of b**r and a truly welcoming atmosphere. Meanwhile, the rest of the week is quite active.

- Monday (31 Aug): Tom B**r is back, supporting new talents and established creators. The most authentic and supportive Open Mic is here starting at 8 pm.

- Tuesday (1 Sep): Ben is back from his holiday with his accordion and kazoo. Gather your team of 6 and grab a table for our Pub Quiz. Starts at 8.30 pm, but early arrival is recommended to secure a table.

- Wednesday (2 Sep): After a successful fundraising event last Saturday, the Vinyl Night is back. Get four records together and share them with the room. From 8 pm.

- Thursday (3 Sep): Bad Saloon takes the main bar to fill it up with the best soul and blues! Music starts at 8.30 pm.

- Saturday (4 Sep): We missed them over the Summer, but they are back. The best DJ evening in York: Sophisticated Boom Boom. Not cheese, only class. You are in for an awesome evening.

- Sunday (5 Sep): Traditional folk session, come and join or just enjoy the music! From 8 pm.

THE GOLDEN BALL CLASSES ARE BACK 🎶

After the absolute joy of our summer pop-up, I’m so excited to say Baby Band is heading back to The Golden Ball.

These are a little bit different from our usual weekly classes. Once a month we’ll be taking over the Garden Room for 45 minutes of Baby Band fun, real instruments, brilliant music and plenty of opportunity for your little ones to make some noise.

And just like our summer session, these classes are **PAY WHAT YOU FEEL**.

Come along, grab a drink, settle in and enjoy a Sunday afternoon Baby Band session in one of York’s loveliest community pubs.

Our summer class filled up very quickly, so booking is essential even though there’s no upfront ticket cost.

Oh no! Everyone’s dashing to pick up school uniforms, pencils, backpacks, and getting fresh haircuts… it can only mean Summer is nearly over. But don’t worry, the Golden Ball is here to help ease the back-to-school stress, and we’re all set for another bank holiday!

- Tuesday (25 Aug): Our traditional pub quiz, this time with no kazoo but as fun as ever, as Ben is on holiday trying to milk the last week of Summer. Starts at 8.30 pm, but early arrival is required to avoid disappointment.

- Wednesday (26 Aug): Rowan and Friends is back for their monthly evening at the GB with a nice Summer Jamboree. From 8 pm.

- Saturday (29 Aug): Our Turnip Weight-in Competition is on from 1 pm. Come around if you got your seeds on time and your Turnip is Glowing Gold; come around and compete for this year’s trophy and prizes from behind the bar. You can also come and witness the competition and meet some new people

- Saturday (29 Aug): The Vinyl Night regulars decided to get together and raise funds for the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust by organising a fantastic JUKEBOX party! Come around, request your song and participate in the all-night bottle raffle. From 6 pm.

- Sunday (30 Aug): The best day of the week, particularly on bank holiday, but our Folk Session regulars do not like to leave the calendar empty, so they will be back from 8 pm on Sunday.

York is lovely in the Summer, and the GB accommodates those who prefer the outdoors or the indoors, with our stunning b**r garden and classic listed interiors. Join us for this very exciting week, which showcases our classics and some of the best talent in our community.

- Monday (17 Aug): The most diverse and talented open mic in York, the place to be on a Monday evening if on holiday. Show your talents or just come and witness York’s greatest. From 8 pm.

- Tuesday (18 Aug): Talking about classics, our version of the classic pub quiz is funny, challenging and for everyone. Ben will put your brains to the test with his squeeze accordion and, if he finds one, his kazoo. 8.30 pm start, but it can get busy, so get down early to secure a table. Max 6 per team.

- Wednesday (19 Aug): Bob and Vic might come to an agreement and bring out the turntable for everyone to share their tastes or new discoveries. 4 tracks per person. From 8 pm.

- Thursday (20 Aug): Planet Food hosts their Poetry & Jam night in our Garden Room. Help them raise funds by buying a jar of jam, or jamming with your writings in the room. From 8 pm.

-Friday (21 Aug): Months of preparation for this evening. Will, Jack, Tom, Eddie and Cam get together for a night of the Golden Beatles. On this first gig, playing a selection from the 62-66 era. It starts at 8 pm and finishes by 10.30 pm. Free entry!

- Sunday (23 Sun): Our classic folk jamming night is back to relax everyone and put the perfect cap on the weekend. From 8 pm.
