By launching our 5th programme with Yorkshire Water, we're proud to share that more than 50,000 hectares of Yorkshire farmland is now managed using regenerative agriculture techniques - that's a lot of healthy soil!

A big thanks as always to all the pioneering farmers who work hard to adapt new practices that improve soil health, water quality and benefit our climate.

When we created the Sustainable Futures in 2019, Tom became the first pilot farm in the UK to benefit from the independently verified soil carbon credits programme. Read his story:

Farmer Partner Case Study | Tom Mellor | One Farmer’s Journey to Carbon Farming Tom Mellor farms just over 500 acres of arable land, high above Bridlington on the Yorkshire coast. On rolling hills typical of the Yorkshire Wolds, soils here are well drained but thin and chalky and therefore prone t...

A big highlight from last year was bringing together farmers from our Yorkshire Water Innovation groups and our HEINEKEN UK low-carbon groups to share insight from trials at the glorious Warter Priory estate.

Our CarbonBank is open. The first verified carbon credits have been sold to RELX, a global provider of information-based analytics and decision tools. We aim to make 10,000 credits available by the end of the year, creating additional income for farmers on our programmes, whilst removing 10,000 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere - critical to limiting global warming to 1.5C.

Sustainable Wolds farmer Tom Mellor, The Wold Top Brewery, is the first farmer to have carbon credits verified on his land, equivalent to the annual carbon footprint of 84 UK people! His farming system lends itself to removing CO2 from the atmosphere and producing great quality food.

Huge thanks to University of Leeds Farmplan for collaborating on this project.

Bees are vital to the pollination and healthy growth of our popup rainforests; vast wildflower meadows that improve soil structure, attenuate water and capture carbon on farms across the UK.

On a warm December day last year, we spotted bees on Mike Powley’s farm. Mike's decision to grow over winter provided an available food source for bees, which is increasingly important with our warming climate.
