We are an independent speciality coffee shop/restaurant situated in York's most elegant street. We serve Monmouth coffee, Bluebird teas and a wonderful array of home made cakes and fresh patisserie. We have an all day Breakfast/Brunch menu and a few lunch dishes. We cook everything to order using the best quality fresh ingredients. We support local suppliers and independent producers, bakers and roasters. Our rustic modern British menu takes its inspiration from the seasons and the richness of the produce that we source with our team. We also run a small farm outside York, in which we are growing herbs, vegetables and edible flowers for the warmer months. We are also an antique, design shop, and art gallery.We have a revolving list of artists showing in the restaurant,.

End of September in the garden — windfall apples and quinces, the last of the beans and chard, tomatoes still coming, and dahlias having a quieter year than usual. Two baskets off to Partisan and Brancusi for cakes and sorbets. Seasonality has always been what we are: the cake counter and the evening menu are turning over to game and chanterelles, damsons, pears, the first British-grown radicchio, damsons — from our own farm, from Food Circle, from our friends at Maidensworth Farm.

A Thai Inspired evening at our sister
restaurant, Brancusi. Sam Varley, head chef of Brancusi, and Wes, general manager of Michelin Guide pub The Owl in Hawnby, are bringing their pop-up Hot Egg to Brancusi for an evening of Thai-inspired cooking. Wes brings a considerable chef background with him too, with time in London kitchens including Kiln in Soho.
Expect cuttlefish, prawn and sesame toast, brown crab fritters with nam jim, hogget skewers, Middlewhite pork laap, a dry red mackerel curry, and plenty more besides. Beyond the plates, the bar has built a special cocktail menu for the evening, designed to pair with the food and built around elevated traditional Thai flavours.
Monday 28th September, from 6pm. One night only.
The evening is built around a curated set menu at £40 per head, pre-paid at the time of booking. Given the nature of a set menu, we ask that any dietary requirements are emailed ahead so we can confirm we're able to accommodate them on the night.

Fresh scones, every day.
For Partisan and Brancusi, we bake them in small batches - sometimes a couple of times a day - so they’re always fresh from the oven. There is always a cheese scone and a fresh fruit scone, with the fruit changing through the seasons.
We make them with high-quality butter, organic flour, and Johnson’s eggs - simple ingredients, chosen well to maximise lamination . That way you get the tall , flaky layers and a fluffier scone.
Warm, seasonal, fresh. Just as scones should be. Thank you Hannah.

The title refers to the Greek word for the sea.

Unfortunately I live in the wrong part of Yorkshire to take part in but lucky for me the lovely Florencia invited me to show some work in this marvellous place and there you will also be able to pick up a giclee print of this painting I created inspired by Partisan some four years ago!

Partisan is so much more than a cafe and not forgetting it’s sibling just down the road, there’s a print available of this corker too!
