I’ve always found it fascinating how many assumptions people make about veganism.

Not because people are malicious.

Usually because they’ve never really been exposed to it.

I’ve lost count of the number of times someone has been shocked that Oreos are vegan. Or that Jammy Dodgers are vegan. Or that a giant cookie can be vegan.

The funny thing is, most people have probably eaten vegan food countless times without even realising it, and people don’t believe me when I say THAT THE MAJORITY OF MY CUSTOMERS ARENT EVEN VEGAN! I just make really good cakes!

Maybe that’s why I love doing markets.

People stop because they’re curious.

They ask questions.

Sometimes they challenge things they’ve always believed.

And occasionally they discover that vegan food isn’t actually that different from the food they already enjoy.

I think that’s a pretty cool thing.

The star of the show in Ilkley was hands down the banana split cake that just so happened to be gluten free as well! A chocolate chunk banana bread cake with banana frosting, white chocolate and sprinkles! 🍌 Will definitely be including this in my regular market menu- next stop Bridlington Vintage festival 28th June x

For a long time, every mistake felt like proof that I wasn’t good enough.

A forgotten order. A dropped cake. The wrong flavour. A misspelt topper. The kind of mistakes that make your stomach hit the floor and leave you wanting to crawl under a rock.

But here’s what I’ve learned: mistakes don’t define your business. How you respond to them does.

Every single one of these disasters taught me something. Better systems. Better organisation. Better communication. Better boundaries. Better processes.

I’ve never hidden from a mistake. I’ve apologised, put it right, learned from it, and carried on.

The truth is, when you’re building something from scratch, you’re going to get things wrong sometimes. That’s not failure. That’s experience.

So no, I don’t punish myself for these things anymore. I take responsibility, I fix what I can, I learn the lesson, and I move forward.

Because the baker standing here today is only here because of every single f**k up that came before her. 🩷

Ilkley Food Festival 🩷🌱

A huge thank you to everyone who came and supported us this weekend.

I’d also like to congratulate the people who managed to determine that all of our bakes were disgusting without tasting a single one.

An incredible talent.

Just from spotting the word vegan.

The head shake.

The “ugh it’s not for me”

The look of concern, as if we’d just offered them a handful of grass clippings and cow s**t.

All delivered from a safe distance, of course.

You really did provide some top-tier entertainment.

The rest of you were lovely. 🩷😂
