Meet Kara, one of our fantastic Caffi Cwtch volunteers.☕🍰
Kara joined the Caffi Cwtch volunteering team following the Covid-19 pandemic, after her employer decided to continue operating remotely.
She explains:
“Having worked as part of a busy team in an office environment for many years I found myself working alone at home and when we came out of lockdown my employer decided that we could continue working from home. I missed the personal interaction and the office banter that we used to have and spending most days alone until my family returned home from their working days.”
Looking for a way to reconnect with others, Kara discovered volunteering.
“I was listening to a radio programme about volunteering and thought, ‘I could do that.’ My job is flexible, so I spoke to my employer and they were very supportive of me volunteering.”
While volunteers play a vital role in supporting Caffi Cwtch, the experience can be just as rewarding for them.
“Volunteering at Caffi Cwtch helps me to get the people interaction that I need. The team I help are lovely and it’s great when we can have banter between ourselves. I help two afternoons a week, and I totally switch off to everyday things when I'm here. I've met so many nice volunteers and customers since my time at the cafe and have made new friends.”
Kara encourages anyone considering volunteering to take the first step:
“If you are thinking of volunteering come along and give it a go - not only are you helping yourself you are helping others.”
Fancy joining Kara and making a real difference? Whether you're looking to meet new people, learn new skills, or give something back to your community, we'd love to welcome you to the Caffi Cwtch volunteering team.🩵
