In 1784, John Cambridge, the son of Francis Cambridge, landlord of The Star Inn was born. As a young man, John emigrated to Canada where he set up a timber business in Prince Edward Island for the shipbuilding industry. John called his business "White Star", named after his father's pub. The business grew and John revisited the profits to found shipping company, which he called "White Star Line".

Eventually John's business was taken over, but the new owners retained the name, and later grew into the famous company that went on to commission the building of the Titanic- the rest is history...

After the excitement and then very disheartening events of yesterday - let’s pick your spirits back up a bit!

We’ve got a WONDERFUL weekend ahead ☀️

💛 On Saturday it’s the EPIC Wotton RFC 🤠🌟 FAMILY FUN DAY 2026 🌟🤠 - A day of stalls & games, free kids entertainment, live music, arts & crafts, food and much, much more! 12-5pm 🥳
🎸Followed by live music at 9pm with Steve Cann 🎶

⚽️On Sunday - it’s the World Cup Final! England are sadly out (we are so over it anyway.) The silver lining is that we can enjoy a nice neutral game of football at 8pm! Nice and totally neutral, we can just enjoy the sport and the talent for what it is as Argentina or something take on 🇪🇸❤️🇪🇸💛🇪🇸SPAIN 🇪🇸💛🇪🇸❤️🇪🇸!
