A coffee shop and cafe at a popular Wordsley attraction has closed down after 11 years with the loss of seven jobs.

It is with great sadness that we must share the news that after 11 wonderful years, the Red Cone Coffee House ceased to trade on 22nd January 2023.

Unfortunately, ever increasing costs have meant that the Coffee House is no longer viable and despite our very best efforts, we have been unable to secure a future for the business.

We have attempted to contact all future bookings and have been successful on all but one. If you have a future booking with us please contact us on our usual email address: [email protected]

We would like to thank all of our team, customers and colleagues for their invaluable support over the years. We have enjoyed your company, your stories and your friendship immensely.

Finally we will ask that you please be kind… the loss of this business has resulted in 7 people losing their jobs and we would ask that you consider that before posting anything negative. We would also encourage you to keep visiting the Red House Glass Cone site. We may not be there anymore but there are many wonderful small businesses on site who need your support now more than ever.

A thought for today…

I think we’re all more than aware that times are getting tougher and many of us are having to more carefully consider what we can spend and what we should spend it on.

This is the very reason we should all try to support local as much as possible. It’s incredibly hard to run a business with the cost of everything going up literally week by week. There are so many costs involved in running a small business, costs the customer may not even realise are there. It is very easy to question why something is ‘so expensive’ when you only consider the raw ingredients… please also consider the other costs involved, rent, rates, utilities, insurances, wages, training, banking, accountants etc etc. The list goes on. The cost of running a small business is now so high that many are barely scraping by and some are already gone for good 😞.

We don’t have the marketing power of the big companies, we don’t get the same level of discounts because we don’t have the buying power, we don’t have massive head office teams, lawyers, administrators, HR departments and maintenance teams to back us up. We pay our taxes because we can’t get out of it like some big companies seem to manage. Yet very often we are still offering you a cheaper but comparable or better product.

Please, please support local small businesses wherever you can. It is so important. We want to keep going for you, for our staff and for our communities. We know times are hard but we really need your support ###

“Is the Red House Glass Cone closed while the restoration work is being done?”
This is a question I am regularly being asked.
From the photograph I took this morning I can understand the confusion.
With the main gates locked, contractors machinery and equipment visible and filling the main entrance and with the pedestrian access hard to see especially when driving past.
YES. It is open as normal while the vital work is carried out on the main structure.
My studio and gallery is OPEN along with all the other artisan studios selling amazing hand crafted gifts that are perfect Christmas presents.
