🌸 Dahlia season won’t be around for much longer… 🌸

As we head towards the end of September, we’re getting closer to saying goodbye to the dahlias for another year 😭 And they are looking SO beautiful right now.

So, if you’ve been meaning to come and pick your own bunch, this is your sign! ✂️🌸

And because the weather is looking absolutely gorgeous on Thursday, I’ve added ONE LAST EVENING PYO session from 5.30–6.30pm ☀️

There’s something really lovely about wandering through the flowers at the end of the day. Come and switch off from the hustle and bustle for an hour, choose your favourites and head home with an armful of gorgeous dahlias. 🥰

I think one of the hardest things about running our café is something you probably wouldn’t ever think about as a customer…

How on earth do we know how many of you are going to turn up each day?!😂

The last three days have been the PERFECT example.

Saturday was a random weekend in September. It was windy, cloudy and we had no weddings, events or anything else happening here to bring extra people onto the farm.

We’d staffed for what we thought would be a fairly busy Saturday.

And then it felt like ALL of Worcester turned up! 😂

It ended up being our biggest day of the whole summer in terms of café takings when we haven’t had an event running alongside it.

It completely exceeded our expectations and, in reality, we could have done with another one or two people working. Our team were absolutely run off their feet. They kept going with smiles on their faces (just about 😂), but my word, it was hard work for them.

Then Sunday came along and we took around half Saturday’s takings.

And today? It’s been really quiet.

This is one of those behind-the-scenes realities of running a café that I don’t think you necessarily see from the other side of the counter.

We can’t simply put lots of staff on “just in case”. Café margins are tight and having even one person too many working can genuinely be the difference between covering our costs that day and not.

But understaffing isn’t good either. It means longer waiting times for customers and a team who are absolutely flat out trying to keep up.

So every week we look at the weather, bookings, what’s happening locally, what happened this time last year, whether there’s an event on, whether the schools are off… and make our best educated guess.

And sometimes you lot completely prove us wrong 🤪

Saturday was one of those days.

We’re incredibly grateful that so many of you chose to spend part of your weekend with us — and particularly grateful to the team who worked their socks off looking after everyone. 💙

A little wedding first for us yesterday 🥹 🥂 🐮

This is something we’ve wanted to do for SUCH a long time, but if I’m completely truthful, we weren’t quite certain how well it would work catering for a big wedding.

Yesterday we finally gave it a go… and it worked. Brilliantly! 🙌

For the first time, we served our own home-reared beef at a wedding here at Bennetts Willow Barn. And the feedback from the guests was absolutely brilliant ❤️

This one feels quite special to us. We’re a wedding venue, but first and foremost this is our family farm. Tristan farms the land and looks after the animals literally a couple of fields away from where our couples get married, so being able to serve food that has actually been produced here is something we’re really proud of and absolutely central to our ethos.

Our beef is slowly reared to around 2½ years old on a natural, forage-based diet, which we think is a huge part of why it tastes so good. It’s then traditionally hung at our butcher for four weeks, which gives it that lovely tenderness.

Then Karen and Abi work their magic in the kitchen 🤩 and yesterday it was served as slow-cooked hot beef baps.

And they were bloody brilliant!

So after yesterday’s success, they’re staying! 🙌

Our hot beef baps will now be a fixture on our event catering menu, which means whether you’re having a wedding or a party with us, you can choose our own home-reared beef or our home-reared pork to feed your guests.

Proper farm-to-fork food, from our farm, at your celebration.

It doesn’t get much more local than that ❤️🐄

The only problem is that you now need to choose between our home-reared hog roast or our home-reared beef. Which would you choose? Hmm🤔

🎃 PUMPKIN PATCH TICKETS ARE NOW LIVE! 🎃

And if you’re looking for a proper, muddy-boots, pick-it-from-the-field pumpkin experience this October… this is it. 🧡

🌱 We grow our pumpkins ourselves, from seed, right here on our family farm.

It sounds like that should be a given at a pumpkin patch, but it’s actually becoming pretty unusual! When you visit us, you’ll head into the field where the pumpkins have been growing all summer and choose your favourite straight from the plant. 🎃

This is a proper little slice of farm life for the whole family — dogs very much included 🐾

Once you’ve picked your pumpkin, you can carve it here too (and leave us with the mess 🙌😂), then take your pumpkin scoopings over to our pumpkin patch pigs for them to polish off. 🐷

We’re doing our ticket prices a little differently this year.

Last year, the final couple of weekends in October were SO much busier than the earlier dates, so this year our entry prices vary depending on when you visit.

If you’re happy to come earlier in October or on one of our quieter dates, you’ll get the best value — and hopefully it means we can spread everyone out a little more across the month too. 🎃

🌙 AND… Pumpkin Patch After Dark is back!

On Friday 23rd & Friday 30th October, you can come pumpkin picking as the sun goes down and the fairy lights come on. ✨

We’ll have pumpkins, pigs, marshmallow toasting, stone-baked pizzas, hog roast, live music and plenty of spooky autumn atmosphere. 🕸️🔥🎃

After Dark tickets have already been flying out, so if you’ve got your eye on one of those evenings, I wouldn’t hang around!

🌸 I’ve got space for a few more ladies (or gents!) to join me amongst the dahlias this September…

And if picking armfuls of flowers, learning how to turn them into a gorgeous bouquet and then heading down to the café for Afternoon Tea sounds like your idea of a pretty lovely day, this one’s for you 💕

My Hand-Tied Dahlia Bouquet Workshops are really relaxed. No floristry experience needed and absolutely no need to be “creative” — I’ll show you exactly what to do!

We’ll start in my PYO Dahlia Patch, where I’ll show you how to choose and cut your stems and share a few tips for getting the best vase life from your flowers.

Then you get to wander through the rows and pick the dahlias you love 🌸

Once our buckets are full, we’ll sit down together and I’ll show you step-by-step how to make a proper spiral hand-tied bouquet, before wrapping it up ready to take home.

And you really do go home with an enormous armful of homegrown dahlias 😍

My remaining September dates are:
