Dear Guest and Friend
We are absolutely delighted to invite you to a special weekend dedicated to history, relaxation, and wildlife conservation at Trimstone. We are opening our gardens to Butterfly Conservation!
Set within quiet countryside, Trimstone is easily accessible from Ilfracombe or Barnstaple and guests are welcome to stroll around at their leisure.
Whether you want to wander through centuries of heritage, find peace in a unique garden sanctuary, or just to support a wonderful cause, we would love for you to share this beautiful space with us.
Here is a glimpse of what awaits you:
๐ฆ Supporting Butterfly Conservation
Attending supports the vital work of Butterfly Conservation. We love our nature here and do all we can to be eco-conscious and pesticide-free, purposefully leaving untamed areas like nettles and brambles too, to provide critical habitats for caterpillars, moths and butterflies.
Suggested Donation: We suggest a minimum donation of ยฃ5 per attendee (children free). Donations can be made at the lounge bar.
Boost Your Donation by 25%: If you are a UK taxpayer, you can make your gift go further at no extra cost to you. Simple Gift Aid declaration forms will be available!
It is also the last weekend of the Butterfly Conservation โBig Butterfly Countโ so you could do yours here!
๐ฟ Explore Our Historic Grounds & Gardens
Deep Roots in History: Take a walk through a North Devon haven documented all the way back to the Domesday Book. Discover our traditional local stone structures, the old mill water wheel in the pool area and vintage farming equipment used on the land centuries ago.
The Japanese-inspired Garden: We are incredibly proud to feature a developing Japanese-inspired Garden - to our knowledge, the only one of its kind in North Devon. When not so dry, it features a bubbling stream and a Japanese-style summer house with stunning views. It is a growing labour of love designed for quiet contemplation.
Plus, with a collection of poultry, peafowl and emus thereโs an opportunity to make some feathered friends too โ the peafowl freely roam the grounds and the emus admired safely in their enclosure!
โ Treat Yourself & Relax
Indulgent Cream Teas: Join us for a classic, delicious cream tea during your visit! These and drinks can be ordered directly from the bar in the lounge. (If you are a larger group we suggest you ring ahead to book)
Extend Your Stay: Love the atmosphere? You can wake up here! We offer beautiful, relaxing B&B stays in our comfortable hotel rooms and there are our charming self-catering cottages. (Our indoor heated swimming pool is also available as an added boost for our staying guests.
Not forgetting Moths..!
For the eager, Trimstone will be setting some humane Moth traps on Friday and Saturday nights and it is proposed that at 9.30am each morning, we shall talk through what we have found. The moths will be kept carefully and available, we hope, for visitors to enjoy over the two days too.
If anyone wants to stay over at Trimstone, so they can inspect the traps on Friday and Saturday evenings too, please contact the Hotel to check room availability.
