This weekend marks our first year since opening The Black Tiles ✨️ So I just wanted to post an essay in our (more mine 😂) thoughts and feelings about the pub. I had originally planned to use AI to help me as those of you that know me, also know I am not good with words (or spelling). However it didn’t feel like me.
So here it goes, I’ll start from the beginning. Hopefully some will make it to the end 🤞

I remember sitting in Play 2day when the Black Tiles was listed on the market. I turned to my friend and said I’m buying it. 100 % it’s mine, I wanted it so badly. The perfect pub 🍻

I have always wanted to own a pub. And it definitely isn’t what I was expecting 😂, however one of the things I love the most was never something I had considered. That is being in the heart of the community.

Being a local family ourselves, we see and speak to so many of you on a regular occasion, so much so , there’s no such thing as a quickly “popping to little Tescos” 😂 but I do truly love the attention.

I feel like we have got to know so many people over this last year and you have got to know us, I love hearing all the occasions you have had at the pub. Parties, band nights, celebrations of life, bumping into old friends or just utalising the play area as a babysitter. We’ve had it all and we appreciate everyone of them. So a massive thanks for your support. It’s the customers who keep the doors open and every great pub needs great customers and we’ve smashed that 🫶

Although we opened after a huge renovation, which involved allot of time, stress and money , ( which we have to say a massive thanks to the builders for getting us through it) it always felt like a lot more was to be done. we kept finding new things that needed to be added. Certain things didn’t work and a lot of infrastructure had to be built. We kept finding new issues with draft, underfloor heating, internet, the pond and the list goes on for ever. But every thing we’ve found we have slowly removed from the list.

When we opened it was everyones first day on day one and we went from closed to rammed. The staff took the brunt of most of that so I’m very grateful for all the hard work that’s been put in from all the staff. I hear allot of feedback about how great the staff are and I hope the staff get told aswell ❤️

We understood from day one the importance of the pub for the community and so, felt the pressure that the pub not only survives but thrives. Something all locals could be proud of. It’s become as much a venue as a pub and without demand you wouldn’t get the supply. So again another thanks as your support has enabled us to try new things and we have many more ideas in our heads to get excited about.

Believe it or not, this is the short story. If you’ve had a pint with me in the pub you’ve probably heard the long version lol.

🎉 Our 1st Anniversary Celebration! 🎉

Next weekend marks one whole year since we reopened The Black Tiles, and what an incredible journey it’s been!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to all of our amazing customers, friends, family and staff who have supported us over the last year. Your loyalty and encouragement have helped make The Black Tiles what it is today.

We’re absolutely delighted that The Biscuit Brothers will be helping us celebrate this special milestone this Friday from 9pm! 🎶

Come along for a fantastic evening of live music, great food, drinks and a brilliant atmosphere as we celebrate together. We can’t think of a better way to mark our first anniversary!
