The Captain’s Table, Woodbridge, to Close After Final Service on Friday 25 September
Woodbridge, Suffolk — The Captain’s Table, the much-loved restaurant on Quay Street, will close its doors for the final time on Friday 25 September, following the decision to sell the freehold of the building.
This has been one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make. The Captain’s Table has been part of our lives — and part of this town — for nearly three decades. We bought the freehold back in 1998 and spent the next ten years running the restaurant ourselves, pouring everything we had into building something special. We then leased the building out for a number of years to bring up our young family of four children, before returning to take the reins ourselves once more from July 2024, delighted to bring the restaurant back to life under our own hand.
Throughout every chapter, one thing has never changed: the extraordinary support of our customers and this community. From the regulars who have popped in every week for years, to visitors who discovered us on a stroll and became firm friends of the restaurant, you have made The Captain’s Table what it is. You have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and quiet Wednesday evenings with us, and we have loved every moment of sharing them with you. The friendships made across our tables — with guests and with the wonderful staff who have worked alongside us over the years — are something we will treasure always.
Woodbridge is a town built on community, history and its beautiful riverside, and we feel enormously proud to have been a small part of that story. It is precisely because this restaurant, this building and this town mean so much to us that the decision to sell the freehold has not been taken lightly.
We want to thank every single customer, supplier, member of staff and neighbour who has supported us — this send-off would mean nothing without you. We hope you’ll join us for one last visit before Friday 25 September, to raise a glass and share some memories.
