Hello Wivenhoe!

Gosh, the rumour mill has been busy of late. In answer to two questions we've repeatedly been asked:

1. Has the deli been sold? No! We are still going strong, over 22 years into our tenure here.

2. Is the deli closing down? No! Definitely not.

However, we are going to be closed for a couple of weeks. After the difficult trading conditions of this summer we were going to try and power on through to the festive season, but in reality there's things that require a bit of maintenance and TLC, including us.

We will be closed from 23rd September until 4th October. So our last day will be Sunday 20th September, and we will reopen on Wednesday 7th October.

It's been a bad week to be a vegetable in the deli kitchen.

Yes the giant pots have been crowding the hob and our immersion blender has been running hot, helping us to restock the freezer with all your favourites soups.

Our soups are compatible with both omnivorous and plantbased diets, and none of our recipes use ingredients that contain gluten.

HEAT-RELATED CLOSING!

Hi folks, as you're all aware there's a rotten heatwave this week and, unfortunately, our 16th century premises isn't air-conditioned. We're going to look into rectifying this as summers this hot become the new norm, but for now we must work with what we have.

To that end, in order to make sure our equipment keeps running and our stock is protected from the heat, we're going to have to close for a couple of days.

We have planned to close Wednesday and Thursday. As of this morning Friday also seems untenable, but we'll make a decision on that tomorrow.

Please keep an eye out over the next few days to check when we're open. It's the first time in many years we've chosen to stay closed due to an unforeseen circumstance, so it's not a decision we've taken lightly.

Apologies to the customers expecting to pick up their Wednesday and Thursday orders - bread has been cancelled and the butchery delivery pushed until the weekend. And of course apologies to everyone else for the inconvenience.

We hope to see you over the weekend, and hope you stay safe!

Easter weekend - as usual, we're open Good Friday and Saturday!

But for the first time in 22 years we will be closed on Easter Sunday itself, sorry.
