Home to the finest home-made cakes, scones and sandwiches, Mancoco artisan coffee, Cheshire Farm ice cream, a selection of tasty freshly prepared rolls and Panini’s, amongst other quality food and drinks. We're also licensed from 11am every day and a selection of fine wines, spirits, bottled beers and cider are available. We’re just a 5 minute walk from Wigan Infirmary, at the top of Wigan Lane. Just far enough to escape into a relaxed environment, comfortable and homely. We have indoor and outdoor seating, free Wi-Fi and newspapers, USB charging points and we accept cards and cash. We also offer a takeaway service, so you can grab your favourite coffee and cake on the go!

..we've had customers tell us they're better than scones they've had at some very famous hotels, which is a compliment we'll certainly never take for granted.

What’s in a name?!

We’re sometimes asked why we called it Caffè Rosso.

Well… “rosso” is Italian for red 🇮🇹❤️

We’ve always loved Italy, but red also seems to have followed us both around for most of our lives!

Our front doors when we were little boys? Red.
Our first cars? Red.
Our family football teams? Red.

And then there’s the slightly less sophisticated (🤣) story of how Caffè Rosso actually began…

About 12 years ago, we were on holiday, Pretty drunk on a balcony, and somehow got onto the subject of opening our own café.

It was probably one of those conversations that should have been completely forgotten by the following morning.

Except we didn’t forget it!!

A couple of years later, in 2016, we actually did it. We opened the doors to Caffè Rosso.

That was TEN YEARS AND FOUR MONTHS AGO!! Blimey!!

A lot has changed since then, but the important bits really haven’t.

Every cake in our cabinet is still homemade. Our soups are made here from raw ingredients. Our sandwiches are freshly prepared using artisan bread. And we’re still ridiculously fussy about ingredients, the little details, the welcome and the standards.

Could we buy more things in? Yep.
Could we cut a few corners? Yep.
Could we probably do things more cheaply? Absolutely.

But then it just wouldn’t be Caffè Rosso.

So there you go… a love of Italy, a strange amount of red throughout our lives and one very drunken conversation on a balcony.

Not a bad way to start a café really!! ❤️

A firm Rosso favourite, homemade as always, and here until the soup changes again on Saturday.

And for something sweet afterwards… blackberry cheesecake is in the cabinet, with our honeycomb sandwich cake making a little guest appearance today. 👀🍰

It’s definitely starting to feel a little more autumnal out there… 🍂☕️

Which means a warm table, great coffee and something homemade suddenly sounds rather tempting.

Today’s soup is homemade cauliflower & mature cheddar, and the cake counter is looking VERY healthy — cheesecake, Manchester Tart, Victoria sandwich, lemon drizzle, tiffin, shortbread and freshly baked scones.

And there’s a homemade carrot cake joining the line-up this afternoon. 👀🍰
