A Day of Brownies, Cake and a Little Bit of Chaos at Kenny G’s Cafe
Today was another great day with Liam at Kenny G’s Cafe, and once again, he threw himself into the challenges we had in front of us.
This morning, we got stuck into making chocolate brownies. Neither of us had actually made brownies before, so it was a learning experience for both of us! Liam embraced the challenge, followed everything through, and the end result was absolutely delicious.
We carefully cut the brownies into neat little rectangles, making sure we had a few extra pieces for us to test ourselves and to hand out as samples to the ladies working in the hub. Everyone who tried them thought they were delicious, and Liam’s little face was an absolute picture — he was so chuffed with himself! It was lovely to see how proud he was of what he had made.
The brownies are now all boxed up and ready for the Macmillan Coffee Morning tomorrow.
Things got a little more hectic later in the day. We had a bit of a rush on, so we didn’t have quite as much time as we had yesterday with Stuart. Once things settled down, we had to crack on with the orange chocolate cake because all the ingredients had already been measured out and ready to go.
It became a bit of a race against the clock, but Liam managed to get the cakes into the oven before he headed home. That left me with the next challenge: getting them cooled down quickly enough to get the chocolate topping on and everything boxed up ready to transport home.
In the end, the freezer became our makeshift blast chiller! It was a bit of a baking emergency, but it did the trick. I even ended up staying an extra hour at to get everything finished and packed away.
It was a busy, slightly chaotic, but thoroughly enjoyable day. Most importantly, Liam and I both really enjoyed the challenge. There was plenty of learning, lots of laughter, a fair bit of rushing around, and some very tasty results — which, all in all, makes for another brilliant day at Kenny G’s Cafe.
