It's our 3rd year anniversary since we opened the doors for the first time at The Kings Arms Whitchurch, which also mean we're halfway through our tenancy !!!!!
Where does 3 years go ? Well that's a good question 🤔 We took the pub on having searched for 4 months to find a pub that firstly we thought had potential to embrace what we think a good pub should be and that's a simple thing.
A good pub in our eyes should be warm and welcoming, have a good selection of b**rs, ales and ciders, serve quality locally supplied food and be a great safe space to sit, relax and enjoy a quiet half hour with a pint and a paper or an evening with friends getting merry and enjoying each other's company.
There's so much more that goes into running a great pub, but if you can build on those principles we genuinely believe you can't go far wrong.
Have we achieved what we have set out to ? We're getting there, we're not always perfect, but anybody that visits the pub regularly knows that our passion is in this pub, in trying to ensure that everybody arrives with a welcoming hello and leaves with a thankful goodbye and that while you're here even when the pub is full to the brim, you still feel you're getting personal friendly service. Weve picked up a couple of nice awards along the way and we're always overwhelmed by the support we have received from everyone that visits us.
Secondly we wanted to be somewhere that we felt would be a great area to bring a little human into the world. Lucy was 6 months pregnant when we took over and was still working the day before she gave birth to Poppy. She's now 2 and three quarters and living her best life ❤️
A pub is more than b**r, food, sport and money in the till ( though that helps ) A pub is about making friendships that last a lifetime, about being a shoulder to cry on in times of need, being there when somebody needs to confide in you, a lift home when you've had one too many and a sneaky free shot when you haven't had enough and creating a micro world where people meet as strangers and become the greatest of friends.
We're only the present incumbents at The Kings Arms. There's been many a great landlord before us and we're sure there'll be many great ones to come. I've always thought that a good landlord will be remembered and if in some conversation in 20 years time somebody says while sat at the bar, What was the name of that northerner that used to annoy all the Arsenal fans but served a nice pint of Taylors, my job will have been accomplished 😂
