Would you like to keep a highly valued asset for the community?
Lythe Shop has been a central point of Lythe and the surrounding area for around 150 years. Since 2014 it has been run by local people as a community benefit society. The current committee are retiring at the end of the year and new people are needed to take over. The current business is run by a loyal team of volunteers and paid staff.

Volunteers are needed to form a committee and and/or assist in the practical running of the shop. Training in all aspects of the business are available. People with financial, retail, building/maintenance and volunteering experience would be particularly helpful.

Anyone interested – please contact Pen Cruz, Ann Taylor or Laura Dunn on 01947 893983.

A meeting will be held on Tuesday 28th July at 7pm in Lythe Village Hall. Please go along to find out more.

Mulgrave Estate is delighted to have been awarded the Employer of the Year Award 2025 - 26 by Askham Bryan College.
This award in the words of the college " to celebrate the outstanding employers we work with who provide our students with exceptional and meaningful work placement experience." We are so pleased to have been able to work with the college on their Wildlife and Countryside Course.
Tom Spark is our Wildlife Ranger and took on the role of mentoring Isla Monro for her Wildlife and Countryside work placement, which is an integral part of the course, allowing the student to get hands on experience in a real time working environment.
Isla said "working alongside Tom and his fellow estate workers has brought a new lease of confidence in me and has encouraged me to push myself out of my comfort zone and experience new things. Tom has been a true gem to work with."
Tom commented " Isla has been a great student, always looking for things to do and just get stuck in, very quick to pick things up, and never afraid to ask questions, she will be a real asset to whoever takes her on her next step of her journey."
The Estate wish Isla all the best for the future, and it has been a pleasure having you here as part of the team.

Mulgrave Estate is committed to supporting the next generation of countryside professionals and want to ensure that the countryside that we live and work in is adaptable and sustainable, while enhancing and growing the environmental footprint across the Estate and beyond.

Regional SHED event – High Leas Farm

Mulgrave Estate recently hosted a regional Men’s Shed event at High Leas which was attended by around 35 members. Men’s Sheds bring together men who are at risk from social isolation due to personal circumstances such as bereavement, illness, retirement or disability. Many are skilled workmen who are looking for an outlet in a voluntary capacity. The Estate are providing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to come forward and use their skills on the Estate and contribute to it’s future. The Shed event enabled links to be made with various groups across the region and seeds of ideas have been planted for future. Volunteering, health walks, outdoor experiences were all discussed and will be explored in the near future. After lunch, the Sheds put together some bird boxes for use on the Estate in the woods and on farms.
John, our Countryside Manager who worked with the regional co-ordinator to bring the event to the farm commented ‘We have lots of ideas coming forward to be more inclusive in our Estate management here at Mulgrave and we look forward to working with the Sheds as well as many other community groups in the future’.
