Ever wondered why the men of Langton Herring nearly filled the jail? Back in the 18th century, smuggling and "wrecking" were so rife along Chesil Beach that over a third of the village's men ended up behind bars for it.
The Elm Tree Inn has always been right in the middle of the story. This pub used to be a hiding place for smugglers and their contraband, and the walls still hold onto it, with old newspaper clippings tucked away telling tales from the past.
Pull up a stool. We have lots of stories to tell.
